“This is nice,” Nicky said quietly, as he and Melanee danced slowly, in each others arms. “Yeah, it is,” Melanee said, closing her eyes and resting her head on Nicky’s chest, “I’m so tired…” “Do you want me to take you home?” Nicky said, looking down on Mel, “I think I’m quite tired too.” “I don’t know if either of us are right to drive!” Melanee said, laughing lightly, “maybe we should catch a cab, then come back for our cars in the morning.” “But we live on opposite sides of the city?” Nicky said, still holding Melanee close to him. “Well,” Melanee said, opening her eyes and looking up at Nicky, “you could crash at my place, I have plenty of rooms…” “Isn’t Shane staying at your place?” Nicky asked. “I don’t think he will be tonight,” Melanee said, smiling and nodding her head in the direction of Gillian and Shane. “Shane’s too much of a gentleman,” Nicky said, following Mel’s gaze, “he’d never…” Melanee laughed at this, “it’s not Shane I’m worried about!” she said, smiling up at Nicky’s confused face. “What do you mean?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. “Did I tell you that Gill and I were best friends in the last year of school?” Mel asked, letting go of Nicky a the song finished. “Yes…” Nicky said, following Melanee over to a table, and sitting beside her. “Well, let me tell you a little thing about Gill,” Melanee said, smiling fondly over at Gillian and Shane again. “Please continue,” Nicky asked, interested in what she had to say. “Let’s just say that Gillian doesn’t waste time,” Melanee said, “I’m not saying she’s gonna jump in the sack with Shane, she’s not a slut or anything.” “Right…” Nicky said, a little confused, “then what do you mean?” “She’s just a really trusting person,” Melanee said, smiling widely, “she’ll meet a guy, and she’ll just trust him straight away. So she wouldn’t have any problems inviting Shane around, because she’d trust him not to rape her, or steal from her or anything.” “Oh, I get it,” Nicky said, “are you like that?” “No way!” Melanee said, laughing loudly, “I don’t trust men for a second. Gill and I were always different there…” “But you’re inviting me around, and we’ve only met once before?” Nicky said, inching a little closer to Mel, “what’s that about?” Melanee laughed at this, “well Shane says you’re a great guy,” she said, kissing Nicky lightly on the nose, “plus I took up kick boxing last year, so I could kick your arse if you tried to pull anything over me!” They both laughed, and Nicky smiled fondly at Melanee, “I promise, I’ll go straight to the couch,” he said, “and I wont try to steal anything!” “I’ll go one better than a couch!” Melanee said, picking up her purse, “I’ve got three bedrooms. One for me, one for Shane and a guestroom.” “You have a permanent room for Shane?” Nicky asked, raising his eyebrows, “you guys really are close.” “Yeah, we are,” Melanee said, smiling, “he has one for me at his place, too. I’ve got some of my stuff there, and he has some of his stuff at my place. We are constantly staying at each other’s places.” “Are you sure you aren’t together?” Nicky asked, looking over from Shane back to Melanee. “Would I do this if I were dating Shane?” Melanee asked, leaning in closer to Nicky. “Wha…” Nicky started, before being stopped by Melanee’s lips on his. Nicky put his hand behind Mel’s neck and pulled her in closer to him as they continued to kiss. Melanee licked her lips as she pulled away, “told you I’m not with Shane,” she said, smiling over at Nicky. “I believe you,” Nicky said, smiling widely, “do ya wanna go?” “Cool,” Melanee said, hopping off her seat and pressing down her dress. “You look lovely, by the way,” Nicky admired, looking down at Melanee’s dress, “that dress is fabulous.” Melanee smiled genuinely, “thanks, Nicky,” she said, taking his hand, “let’s go tell Shane and Gill we’re going, then head off.” Nicky nodded, and they made their way over to where Shane and Gill were dancing. When Gill saw Nicky and Mel approaching she smiled widely, “you little scamp,” she said, slapping Melanee on the arm, “I can’t believe you did that to me!” Melanee laughed, “can’t you?” she asked, “I’ve done it to you before.” Gillian gave Mel a hug, and smiled as she pulled back, “oh that’s right… Matthew!” “Yes, Matthew,” Melanee said, returning the smile, “I did it all for you, honey, so you owe me one!” “I owe you one, do I?” Gillian said, looking down at Melanee and Nicky’s hands clasped together and raising her eyebrows, “sure I do!” Melanee blushed a little, “well, now we’re even,” she said, turning to Shane, “we’re going now, okay, Shay. Nicky’s gonna crash at my place tonight.” Shane raised his eyebrows, but before he could say anything, Melanee raised her hand to silence him. “He’s staying in the guestroom,” she said, reaching over and giving Shane a quick hug, “so…if you come home, be quiet okay…” “He can crash at my place if ya want?” Gill said, innocently, “you know, if there’s no room…” Shane was about to say something, when Melanee shot him a look. “I’d love too,” Shane said, shaking his head. “Okay, we’ll see you guys, later then,” Melanee said, turning to leave, “call me, okay, Shane.” “Will do!” Shane said, waving at Mel and Nicky as they left. Melanee smiled at Nicky as she watched him trying to flag down a taxi outside, “tonight couldn’t have gone any better,” she whispered to herself, “Shane’s never gonna let me hear the end of it!” |
