If Tomorrow Never Comes
Chapter 5
“Oh, god, really?” Shane said, laughing, “at least that git Greg’s gone, right.”
“What?” Melanee said, shifting her eyes away from Nicky, who she had been staring
at, and turning back to Shane, “oh, yeah.”
Shane raised his eyebrows suspiciously, but let it go, “anyway,” he said, “let’s
grab some drinks, then I’ll introduce you guys to my girlfriend Fia, okay.”
“Cool,” Bryan said, smiling, “I’ll go and grab those drinks then shall I? Beers all
around?” “Yep, that sounds good,” Mel said, smiling back at him.
Bryan turned around and got the attention of a bartender, “6 beers, thanks,” Bryan
said. “Better make that 7,” a voice said behind them. They all turned.
“Oh, guys, this is Fia,” Shane said, proudly, “my girlfriend.”
Fia smiled at the lads and stuck out her hand, “hi,” she said, then turned to Melanee,
“Mel!”
“Fee!” Mel said, putting out her arms and giving her friend a hug, “wow, how are
you, girl?” “I’m good, and yourself…”
As the girls continued talking, Kian looked at them and smiled, “oh, I could look
at two beautiful girls re-uniting, all day,” he said, looking at Shane, “so you’re
dating this fee girl, huh.” “Yep,” Shane said, happily.
“So there’s nothing going on between you and….” Nicky asked, pointing over to where
Melanee was standing.
“Oh, no,” Shane said, shaking his head, “we’re just good friends.”
Nicky let out a sigh of relief, just loud enough for Mark to notice. He shook his
head and smiled, wondering if his mate had a thing for this Melanee girl.
“Here ya go, guys,” Bryan said, returning with the drinks, “enjoy.”
All seven of them drank their beers, happily, chatting about whatever came up, and
soon they were all like old friends.
When Kian and Fia were having an argument about whether blonde guys or brunette guys
were better looking, Shane leaned down and whispered in Melanee’s ear, “see I told
you, you’d like them.”
Melanee smiled, “yeah, you were right, they are all lovely,” Melanee said, glancing
over at Nicky, who was laughing at something Bryan, had said. She noticed how cute
he looked when he laughed.
“Earth to Mel,” Shane said, waving a hand in front of her face, “you wanna dance?”
Mel smiled, “as long as Fia, doesn’t mind.”
“Nah,” Shane said, with a laugh, “she’s too busy arguing with Kian!”
Melanee laughed at the two, then got up to follow Shane.
“Guys, we’re just gonna go dance, okay,” Shane said, holding on to Mel’s hand.
“Okay,” they all chorused.
When Shane and Melanee had left, Bryan nudged Fia in the stomach, “you better watch
those two,” he said, nodding in the direction of Shane and Mel, who were in each
others arms, dancing slowly to Boyzone’s ‘all that I need’.
“Nah,” Fia said, flicking her hand dismissively in the air, “I trust Shane and Mel,
they’re just friends.” “Yeah,” Bryan said, with doubt, “they sure look it.”
The others all had a look at the couple, who were now dancing to Britney Spears’
‘baby one more time’. They were both laughing, and Mel was holding on to Shane’s
stomach, going up and down his body, doing weird Britney impersonations. Shane was
thoroughly enjoying himself, holding his arm around Mel’s waist and occasionally
putting his cheek up to hers.
Fia took another look and took a quick breath, “no, they’re just mucking about,”
she said, trying to convince herself as much as she was the others.
Nicky noticed this and tried to defend his friend, “they are just mucking about,
don’t worry, Fia,” he said, smiling.
“No, I mean…” Fia said, taking another look at Shane and Melanee, “what is he doing
with her?”
Shane had just kissed Mel and put his arms around her, as another slow song came
on.
Bryan realised what he had started, and tried to rectify the situation, “oh, no,
don’t worry, Fia,” he said, “he’s just doing it…to show her a good time.”
“What?” Fia said, angrily, “a good time, oh my god, the bastard.”
As Fia walked toward the couple, abuse was thrown at Bryan from all around.
“What the hell did you say that for?” Kian said, elbowing him in the stomach.
“Yeah, Bryan, now she thinks he’s cheating on her, or something,” Mark said, hitting
Bryan across the head. “Idiot,” was all Nicky managed, as he shook his head.
“What?” Bryan said, trying to defend himself, “all I said was…”
But he was soon cut off, when they heard a loud slap and turned in time to see Fia
running out of the club in tears. “Oh,” Bryan said, quietly.
