Feather Pebble

Tiny Demrei fay petite
born with lithe and nimble grace
Self content with no conceit
Altruistic in her ways
Birds and creatures, forest wild
sought her kind and gentle hand
Unconstrained she bent and smiled
to every child in fairyland
Elderfairies often called
for Demrei’s pleasing fellowship
Fondly was their youth recalled
through this congenial pip
As Demrei played one balmy day
near the garden’s stony well
a breeze persistent came her way
from which a dazzling object fell
She looked at it with queried eye
let her timid fingers touch
Twas naught she could identify
as she took in her tender clutch
Shiny as a coffer’s stash
skin-soft as a cherub’s own
Colors from a rainbow cache
Round like water polished stone
Before the fairy’s wondering gaze
it melted to a coursing stream
Meandering in an upward maze
reflecting gold from sunshine beam
Up her arms the balmy flow
then blithely spreading down her spine
Glimmering wings began to grow
delicate and lacy fine
Demrei laughed in sheer delight
exuberant in erratic dance
Suddenly she took to flight
which seemed a fitting happenchance
After Demrei’s play aloft
discovered as she touched the ground
she wore a neckband feather-soft
that held the stone that she had found
The unrelenting peerless shine
captured by discerning eye
evoked a wisdom by design
that true integrity stood nigh
Rarely has that breeze returned
though there are some with lacy wings
whose honesty and kindness earned
regard the featherpebble brings
