About Me
The Japanese company Matsushita announced last Friday that it will release a hybrid GameCube/DVD player in Japan on December 14th. Known as "Q", the device will be sold for the equivalent to $328.70. Q will be available in both retail stores and from Matsushita's official website. By the first year they plan to release 100,000 units.

The GameCube/DVD player was displayed at Nintendo's Space World 2001 show.

It was said by sources that this GameCube has "absolutely no extra graphics processing functionality, no increased disc drive speed for software, or any other extras when it comes to playing GCN games." But its attractive feature is the DVD movie playback.

Matsushita/Panasonic is the company to supply the DVD disc drives to Nintendo. The company logo is more around the console than the GameCube logo itself. The frontplate of the Q is made up entirely of a mirror and we can see a mechanical front-loading disc drive, four controller ports, and two memory card slots, besides a dozen of buttons.

The same sources said the Panasonic GameCube is both a progressive scan DVD player and a GameCube in one. The bad news is that the system is only going to be available in Japan for the time being, according to one of the representatives at the show.

Unfortunately, more information about the Q is on a
website in Japanese. But who risks speaking the language can go take a look.
