Walking under the starts, Lucky didn’t really know where he was going. He just had to get out of this place. Port Charles didn’t seem big enough for the both of them. He always knew it, but he let his feelings get in the way. Lucky really thought that, of all people, he could trust her. But she eventually let him down, just like everybody else did at some point. Why did he have to fall in love? Why did he need her so badly? She was his best friend, who could see break his heart like that? And Why? Did he treat her bad? No, she was his princess. Was he mean to her? He did everything she ever asked him to. Once again, he was losing to his brother Nikolas. He would always be second best to him, the Prince, and why would it be different with her? He was handsome, rich, funny, everything Lucky wasn’t. To his own eyes anyway.
Lucky found himself in front of Kelly’s, and his eyes started to water. He sat outside for a while, until Bobbie came out and saw him crying. She sat beside him and gave him her shoulder. She already knew, he didn’t have to talk. Nikolas called earlier, looking for him and he explained everything to Bobbie, how Lucky found them in a tight embrace, sharing a tender kiss. Nikolas was afraid his brother might do something stupid, and he asked Bobbie to call as soon as she saw the teenager. Lucky was sobbing, asking his aunt why it had to hurt so bad. Bobbie was gently passing her hand in his hair. She knew he didn’t want an answer, he was just stating a fact, making a point. Lucky got away from his aunt, saying he was ok, wiping the tears from his eyes. Bobbie asked him if he wanted to talk about it, only for Lucky to start crying again.
"-I love her Aunt Bobbie, I can’t live without her. Why did she have to go this to me? He said
-Well, sometimes love isn’t enough. She probably needed something you couldn’t give her. It’s not your fault. You will forget her, eventually
-Never. After everything we’ve been through together, how can I forget her?
-I know it’s hard to believe Lucky, but someday you will find someone who will make your heart skip a beat just by her smile. Also, you will find yourself loving her more than you thought possible. This time, it just wasn’t meant to be."
Lucky got up and said;
"-I need to get out of here!"
Before his aunt could say anything he wandered off, without saying where he was going. He didn’t even know. All he knew was he had to find the way to stop the pain, and fast. He felt like he couldn’t breathe every time the kiss he saw came back in his mind. The love of his life tenderly kissing his own brother. HIS OWN BROTHER.
The relationship between Lucky and Nikolas was finally on the right track. They were living together after Nikolas learned that his uncle was really his father, two months ago and how did he repay Lucky? He took his reason for living away from him. He sat on a bench, in the park, even though it was freezing. He stayed there until his fingers and feet were numb, until the tears on his face were cold, when he heard a voice behind him.
"-Are you ok? She asked"
Lucky looked at her, his cheeks all wet. She was standing there, concerned. He didn’t even know her, never seen her a day before in his life. Suddenly he got mad. At her, at the world.
"-What do you care? He asked with a loud voice
-I don’t. I just thought you might be hurt or something
-Well I’m not so go away
-Ok, you don’t have to be so mean.
-I’m sorry, it’s not you ok? I’m just mad at the world right now
-Well, you should be mad someplace warm, it’s freezing out here. Come on, I saw a little restaurant not far, I’ll buy you a cup of coffee.
-Thanks but no thanks. I kinda need to be alone right now.
-Suit yourself. Hope you’ll be okay.
-Thanks."
The girl started to walk away, when Lucky talked again, scaring her half to death;
"-Wait, what’s your name? He said
-What’s yours? She answered
-I’m Lucky Spencer
-Nice name... Lucky, she said with a smile. I’m Lizzie. Well, Elizabeth. Webber. Nice to meet you. Maybe I’ll see you around sometimes
-Sure"
Lucky was already feeling better. His heart was still aching, but he wasn’t as mad. Maybe he would go see his brother to hear the whole story. He had to go back anyway, to get his stuff, or to kick his brother out. He just didn’t know yet.
Arriving at his room, the door was open and Nikolas was sitting on his bed. Lucky slowly came in. When Nikolas saw him he got up, nervous. When Lucky left, he was about to hit Nikolas and he wanted to be ready.
"-Hi, Nikolas said, nervous
-Don’t worry, I’m not here to hit you. But I do want to talk
-Cool, said Nikolas, relieved. I’m so sorry Lucky. We didn’t mean for you to find out this way
-How did you mean for me to find out?
-We wanted to talk to you about it. Calmly. We didn’t want this to happen, it just did.
-You didn’t mean to steal my girlfriend it just happened?"
Lucky was starting to feel mad again. Elizabeth’s smile didn’t hold him for long! Nikolas backed away, when he saw Lucky’s fist tighten up. Nikolas asked him to calm down, and, to be able to do so, Lucky remembered Elizabeth, in the park. The thought of a complete stranger calming him down was weird, but at least it was working. Nikolas relaxed when he saw Lucky’s hands getting on each side of him.
Lucky started pacing the room, as Nikolas told him what happened. Lucky was not as nearly as mad as he thought he would be. His thoughts kept going to the woman he met in the park. She reminded him of someone, but he couldn’t put his finger on who.
After a while, Lucky decided he had enough and told Nikolas it would be best if he moved out. They would still be brothers, but Lucky didn’t want to live with a back-stabber anymore. Nikolas was happy to oblige, wondering what happened for Lucky to get him off the hook that easily. He packed his bags, and got out of his brother’s face.
When Nikolas left, tears started to fall again down Lucky’s face. He was still hurting, and he honestly thought he would never stop loving Sarah. The girl was so sweet, so gentle, so beautiful, so calm. Never in a million years he thought he would double cross him like that, with his own brother nonetheless. Crying for a while, he fell asleep.
The next day, Lucky was feeling a little better. The pain and feeling of betrayal was still there, but it was more bearable. He went to work at Kelly’s, to get his mind off of Sarah. It was even more horrible because he had lost his best friend too. When he had learned about his father raping his mother after a girl in his class got raped last valentine’s day, Sarah was there to put up with him. She helped him out of the boxcar and moved him in here. He cried on her shoulder for what? For her to get close to Nikolas?
He was bitter, he knew that, but he couldn’t help it. He would NEVER trust anyone again. He trusted his parents, his brother and his best friend, and they all betrayed him. He started his shift, unable to smile at the customer. Ruby was telling him to smile or go home for the day. He needed the extra money.
He was facing the grill, his back showing the door. He heard someone sit down at the counter, and he said he would be there in a minute. He finished the burger and turned around. There she was! The girl from the park! She was looking at a menu, and she didn’t see him yet. He took the burger and went to give it to table four. When he came back behind the counter, he filled a glass of water and put it in front of her. That is when she lifted her head and looked at him.
"-Well hello there, she said with a smile. Lucky right?
-Yes, hi, I didn’t know if you’d remember me. How are you doing?
-I’m great, starved actually. What do you recommend? And how are you?
-Better, thanks. I wanted to thank you for yesterday, and apologize. I was rude
-Hey no need, I just had to mind my business.
-What are you in the mood for? I make one heck of a cheeseburger
-Sounds great!"
Lucky smiled at her, and heard Ruby said "that’s better" as she passed near him. He went in the kitchen and made the cheese. When he came back out, the girl was talking with Ruby and he heard she was looking for a job. He surprised himself thinking he wanted Ruby to hire her. When Elizabeth saw Lucky with the cheese she smiled, and Lucky’s heart missed a beat. Ruby left her alone, telling her to come back tomorrow. Elizabeth sat back at the counter, and took a big bite out of the sandwich.
"-Hum, this is good, she said with her mouthful
-Be careful not to choke lady! Lucky answered with a smile. So where are you from anyway?
-Everywhere. You? Lived in this hell hole your whole life?
-Not really. I lived in Canada for a while, here and there too. I came here 5 years ago, to be near my aunts. Why did you come here?
-My parents are away, and I have to live with my grandmother and my dorky sister.
-Sounds like you don’t like her.
-She is ok, I guess, just NOT my style. Too perfect. Good grades, nice hair, pretty face, see what I mean?
-Oh yeah, totally, he said while she laughed
-No you don’t! Stop teasing me"
Lucky laughed when he heard Ruby yelling in the back to get back to work. Lucky smiled and went to clean tables. Elizabeth, still eating, was checking him out as he leaned forward to pick something up. She saw him get up quickly as he saw someone out. Elizabeth tried to look over his shoulder, but didn’t see anyone.
Suddenly he came back behind the counter as two people came in, a dark haired guy with....SARAH!
Elizabeth watched Lucky was his jaw tighten. The guy came up to the counter as Sarah sat at a table. Elizabeth turned around quickly, turning her back from the table. Lucky was drying some glasses, and Elizabeth looked at her empty plate, carefully listening to what they were saying.
"-I can’t believe you had the guts to bring her here, Lucky was saying
-I’m sorry Lucky, we didn’t know you were working today, answered Nikolas
-I’m sure you didn’t Nikolas! Answered Lucky, angry
- I swear. Do you want us to leave?
-Why would I care?
-Come on Lucky, don’t be like that. We will leave
-No, Ruby can’t afford to lose customers. So go sit down, I will take your orders and then leave me the hell alone"
Elizabeth didn’t know why Lucky was so mad at this Nikolas guy. Elizabeth was waiting for more as she heard in her back;
"-Lucky we really need to talk about this, the three of us. Can you take a break?
-No I can’t Sarah! Lucky answered, more angry than ever"
Elizabeth couldn’t believe her hears. Her sister was right behind her, making this Lucky guy angry. The three teens were silent, waiting for the others to say something. Finally it was Sarah who broke the silence;
"-Lizzie, what are you doing here?
-Hi Sarah, Elizabeth said, looking slowly at her sister
-You know her? Lucky asked, looking at Sarah
-Know her? She is my sister!
-Oh great, just great! Lucky said, throwing the dish cloth on the counter and rushing in the kitchen"
