Elizabeth waited for Lucky to come back from the kitchen, while her sister and Nikolas went away. A whole 10 minutes went by before he came out, his eyes were red. He saw Elizabeth, still sitting there, and went straight to see her.
"-What are you still doing here? Go home Elizabeth
-Hey you don’t have to pass your anger at me you know, I didn’t do anything
-Why didn’t you tell me Sarah was your sister?
-How was I supposed to know? You were the one who should’ve figured it out when I said my name was Webber
-Do you think I remembered your stupid name?
-That’s it, I’m out of here, but you’re gonna miss me"
Elizabeth got up, threw some money on the counter and headed for the door, when Lucky called her back. She didn’t listen. Lucky was mad. Why, every time he thought he’d have a friend, something happened? Elizabeth was kind, funny, he really liked her, until he found out she was Sarah’s sister. Now, how could he befriend Elizabeth, knowing that every time he’ll see her he’ll think of Sarah?
The rest of the say went slowly for Lucky. The Webber girls were in his thoughts, but more Elizabeth then Sarah and that was bugging him. She had nerves, that’s for sure. "You’re gonna miss me". She was awfully sure of herself, but the truth was, he did miss her, in a way. She was the only one who made him smile in the last two days, that was a lot. They were having fun before Nikolas showed up. Why did life had to be so complicated! Lucky decided to catch a movie after work. He didn’t want to go home and be miserable. Drowning in self-pity was not his style anyway. But he didn’t want to go alone. Right after that thought, Elizabeth’s face came up in his mind and he laughed out loud. No way, Never. He wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of knowing he did miss her. Instead, he went alone.
Waiting in line for some popcorn, Lucky was looking around, when he saw Elizabeth, standing in line a couple of feet away. She was turning her back on him, and it looked like she was alone. Lucky was at war with himself not to go there and talk to her. After the way he treated her this afternoon, she probably didn’t want to talk to him anyway.
He got his popcorn and went to his seat. He didn’t see Elizabeth since she was gone when he got out of the food line. The room suddenly became dark and the movie started. For the next two hours, Lucky didn’t think about Elizabeth, Nikolas, or even Sarah. The intrigue got him completely, and he was feeling better when he came out of the theater. He heard a voice he was starting to like say;
"-Well, well, well, if it isn’t Mister Moody.
-Hi Elizabeth, he said, turning around
-Oh so you do remember my stupid name?"
Lucky started to laugh, and she smiled. Lucky was happy to see she wasn’t mad at him. They both started to walk at the same time, in the same direction. Lucky asked Elizabeth where she was going.
"-Home. Don’t really feel like it, but Gram wants me there by 11.
-Well, I’ll walk you there. I don’t want you going home alone at that time of night.
-Hey, no need, I’m a big girl, I won’t get lost. Unless, you want to come to talk to Sarah
-No I don’t want to talk to Sarah, I have nothing to say to her. I just don’t want you to walk home alone.
-Aren’t you sweet, but I didn’t picture you as a knight in a shinny armor though
-Mademoiselle, he said, giving her his arm
-Oh thank you, she replied, taking it"
They talked about everything on their way to the Hardy house. Not once, Lucky thought of Sarah. Elizabeth was funny, and she was fast to answer back. They arrived on the porch and Lucky surprised himself thinking it was too soon. The walk home passed too fast for him. They were standing in front of the door, not really wanting to say good-night, when the door opened. Sarah saw them and Lucky smiled wickedly.
"-Hi Sarah, good-night Elizabeth
-Night Elizabeth answered, thanks for the walk home
-Thanks for the chat, Lucky replied, before leaning forward to gently brush her lips with a kiss"
Elizabeth stood there long after Lucky was gone. Why did he do that for? Because he wanted to show Sarah off, that’s why, answered a little voice in her head, and she believed it. Why would he want to kiss her anyway?
Lucky was walking back to his room, and he couldn’t stop thinking about the little kiss he gave Elizabeth. He was feeling guilty about it. He had been nothing but kind to him, and he tried to use her to get to Sarah. That wasn’t fair to Elizabeth. The guiltiest feeling he was having was to think he wanted to kiss her back. Go back to the Hardy house and kiss her until the sun came up.
"-Oh Spencer stop that! He said to himself, Elizabeth is too good for you to use her as a bounce back"
Tomorrow he would go see her and apologize about the kiss. He was out of line. That was not the best way to start a friendship with Elizabeth. He wanted to be her friend. Really wanted to be his friend.
The next day Lucky woke up and got dressed. He wanted to go to Elizabeth’s before she could take off God knows where. He had to apologize to her right away, before she formed a not-so-good opinion of him. He was walking fast, when he came face to face with her. She was on her way to Kelly’s to see him. They stood there, embarrassed.
"-So, they said together
-You go first, said Lucky
-No, no, go ahead please
-Okay, if you insist, he said with a nervous laugh. I wanted to apologize for yesterday. The kiss in front of your sister....it was way out of line. I’m sorry
-Oh hey, don’t worry about that. I liked the look on Sarah’s face anyway. It was priceless"
Lucky knew she was just saying that. The complicity they felt last night when they were walking wasn’t there anymore. They were standing in front of each other, not knowing what to say next.
"-I was going over to Kelly’s for breakfast, care to join me? She finally asked
-Sure, if you don’t mind
-Why would I mind?"
While they were waiting for their orders, Lucky finally told Elizabeth what went on between Sarah and him. Elizabeth was shocked, to say the least. How could her sister choose that Nikolas guy over Lucky? Liz always knew Sarah was kinda dumb, but she didn’t realized how much!
"-Earth to Elizabeth.
-huh? What? Oh sorry, what were you saying?
-Man you were spaced out! Where were you? Never knew I was that boring
-Lucky! Said Elizabeth, laughing. I’m sorry, I just thought of something that’s all
-What’s that?
-Nothing, don’t worry about it, she said, blushing"
Lucky started to give her a hard time about her blushing, when she took a potato in her plate and threw it at him. He laughed, before throwing her a piece of his eggs. Ruby came out and told them to cut that out, she didn’t want to have to clean it up. Lucky got serious again, before putting two fingers in his glass of water and splashing Liz.
"-Oh now you are dead Lucky Spencer! Elizabeth said, laughing
-Oh yeah? What are you going to do to me?
-You’ll see, when you least expect it, payback time!"
After their breakfast, Lucky offered Liz to do something with him, he just didn’t know what. Elizabeth smiled at him and asked him if they could go ice skating. Lucky thought it was a good idea, went with her to get her skates, then got his.
"-This will be fun, he thought to himself"
He never got to do those things with Sarah. Either they rented a movie, or made out in his room. She wasn’t the type of girl to go out and play. Elizabeth was. Sarah never joked with him, Elizabeth was always kidding. He couldn’t believe how the two sisters were different from each other.
They went to the outdoor ice skating rink, and started chasing each other. Lucky was faster than Elizabeth and he was always getting her. The speakers were playing "Footloose" and Lucky was dancing and running on his skates. Elizabeth was laughing so hard she nearly fell a couple of times. Lucky took her and started swirling her around, nearly getting her to fall. Their cheeks were red from the wind. Lucky’s mouth was hurting from laughing so much.
Elizabeth couldn’t remember when was the last time she had so much fun. It started snowing and it was harder to skate. They finally decided to call it a day and went back to Kelly’s for hot chocolate. Elizabeth’s hands were frozen, and she was rubbing them together. Lucky was sitting in front of her, drinking his beverage. He was looking at Elizabeth each time her eyes were away from him. Not once in the afternoon he thought about the fact that Sarah was probably with his brother. Elizabeth was taking all the place in his thoughts. He felt a pressure on his shoulder and looked up. Bobbie was standing there, smiling at them.
"-Hi aunt Bobbie, Lucky said. This is Elizabeth. She is Audrey’s granddaughter.
-Where are you coming back from? Hi Elizabeth said Bobbie
-We went Ice skating. Answered Lucky
-Hi, answered the girl with a big smile
-My, what a beautiful smile! Said Bobbie, while she winked at Lucky, got him to blush"
Bobbie said bye and went on her way. Lucky was smiling at Elizabeth, and she smiled back
"-What was that all about? She asked
-I have no idea. My aunt is weird sometimes. He answered, blushing again
-Are you hot? Cause your face is awfully red right now, replied Liz
-Oh shut up!"
Elizabeth laughed, remembering the same words she used that morning, after she blushed. The day was perfect, she didn’t want it to end, but then Lucky said that he better walked her home, so she wouldn’t be later for diner. When they got out, Liz shivered from cold and Lucky put his arm around her shoulders to keep her warm.
