Chapter 8

Lucky was up on the dance floor, dancing with a girl from his English class. Elizabeth was sitting at the table with Emily, and the girls were watching Lucky trying to duck out of another dance with her. He said yes not to hurt her feelings, but he had been dancing with her for three songs in a row now. He was looking at the girls, begging them with his eyes to come and take him out of his misery, but either of them would get up. Finally, Emily had pity on him, as a slow dance started. She went to Deannie, tapped on her shoulder, and asked her if it was OK for her to dance with HER date.

"-Thanks, said Lucky, taking Emily in his arms, about time you showed up here.
-Well, Elizabeth and I had too much funn watching you trying to be a gentleman
-So how did I rate?
-You were amazing"

Lucky laughed as he made her swirl around the room. Elizabeth was sitting at the table, actually wishing she was the one who got up first to dance with him. But she didn't want to be the one asking him to dance. She was the one who weaseled her way in here, without even knowing if Lucky really wanted her there, so she wouldn't ask him to dance and take the risk of him saying no and shatter her heart like he did in the barn when he refused her love. True, she didn't actually offer her LOVE, but she did ask him to make LOVE to her, not to give her SEX.

The song ended and Lucky finally was able to sit down at the table next to Elizabeth. He smiled at her, and said he was thirsty. Offering the girls something to drink, he went to the little restaurant and came back with three glasses of juice. Lucky drank all of his, and nearly choked as Chad Rendell from the basketball team asked Elizabeth to dance. Liz got up and went on the dance floor, followed soon by Lucky and Emily. There was no way Lucky would let Elizabeth alone on the dance floor with another guy. Ever since the dance started, Lucky didn't have the chance ONCE to ask Elizabeth to dance. The next dance, he promised himself he would ask her, but the two other dances she was with Chad. He didn't give her the chance to get away, just like Deannie did with Lucky. Tired of waiting for his chance, Lucky pretended to be tired and went alone to the table and sat down, as Emily was dancing with a guy from her class.

The DJ put the next song, which was a slow, and Lucky closed his eyes. He just knew Chad would ask Elizabeth for this dance. And he didn't want to watch.

"-Don't tell me we bore you to sleep already! He heard
-I thought you were busy dancing with CChad, he said, looking at Elizabeth
-That guy? No thanks! He stepped on mmy toes like 50 times, and we weren't even dancing close to each other!
-Well, if I promise not to step on yourr toes, will you dance this one with me?"

Elizabeth's heart stopped as she took his hand to lead him in the middle of the dance floor. He took her right hand in his left and put them on his heart, putting his right arm around her waist. Elizabeth got close to him, as he placed his mouth right next to her ear, his cheek on hers. She heard him slowly whisper as the song got to the lyrics.

"They read you Cinderella
You hoped it would come true
That one day your prince charming
Would come rescue you
You like romantic movies
And you never will forget
The way it felt when Romeo kissed Juliet
And all this time that you've been waiting
You don't have to wait no more

I can love you like that
I would make you my world
Move heaven and earth
If you were my girl
I would give you my heart
Be all that you need
Show you you're everything
That's precious to me
If you give me a chance
I can love you like that
I could love you like that

I never make a promise
I don't intend to keep
So when I say forever,
Forever's what I mean
Well, I'm no Casanova but
I swear this much is true
I'll be holding nothing back
When it comes to you
You dream of love that's everlasting
Well, baby open up your eyes

I can love you like that
I would make you my world
Move heaven and earth if you were my girl
I would give you my heart
Be all that you need
Show you you're everything
That's precious to me
If you give me a chance
I can love you like that
I could love you like that

If you want tenderness, I've got tenderness
And I see through to the heart of you
If you want a man, who will understand
You don't have to look very far"

As he said the last sentence to her, his cheek leaving her flesh, he looked directly into her eyes, right down to the heart of her soul. The singer continued his serenade, as Lucky's head leaned down. Elizabeth wished as strong as she could to feel his lips on hers. Her heart was about to stop beating, as her breath escaped her body. Elizabeth sighed of frustration, as she felt Lucky's cheek back on hers.

When the song finished, Lucky pulled back from her arms, and smiled at her. He whispered "thank you", before walking back to the table. keeping her hand in his.

"-If you'll excuse me ladies, Lucky said, slowly pulling Elizabeth to the chair, I have to use the restroom.
-What did Lucky talked to you about? AAsked Emily. His mouth moved most of the song
-Oh, he just sang in my ear. Said Elizzabeth, trying her best not to blush.
-He sang "I can love you like that" in your ear? WOW
-Can I tell you a secret?
-Of course you can!
-I actually wanted him to kiss me when he looked at me at the end of the song. I was so mad when I saw he wouldn't
-Why didn't you do it then?
-That's a good question. I'll have to get back to you on that"

The girls started to laugh, and were still cracking up when Lucky came back from the bathroom. They heard the DJ say the next songs were the last one, and they were all surprised to see the evening passed so fast. The very last song was a slow dance, and Lucky looked at both the girls with an evil grin.

"-Well, you know, normally, you dance the last dance with your date. I have two, so ladies, may I have this dance?"

Emily and Elizabeth laughed, as Lucky took them both by the hands, and went to the dance floor. He took Elizabeth on his right side, Emily on his left, and the girls locked arms around each other's backs. Chad Rendell came near them and smiled at Lucky.

"-Don't you think you should share Spencer? Give me one of those fine looking ladies
-No way Rendell, get your own fan club""

The girls laughed, as Lucky got them away from the basketball star. After the dance, Lucky both kissed the girls on the cheek and went to get their coats. He dropped Emily off at the Quartermaine's mansion, before taking Elizabeth to the launch. They were standing on the docks, looking far away in the water.

"-I really had fun tonight, thanks for being my "date" to the dance. Said Elizabeth, looking into his deep baby blue eyes.
-It was my pleasure. I had fun too. WWell, guess your ride is here. Said Lucky, as he saw Charles waving at them from the boat
-I guess so. Well, good night. Elizabbeth didn't know what else to say
-Good night Elizabeth. Lucky said, leaaning down and putting a kiss on her cheek"

Elizabeth thought about what Emily said. She put both her hands on the side of his face and led his lips to hers, in a tender kiss. Lucky closed his eyes, lost in the sensation he loved so much. When he opened them again, he was alone on the docks. He looked at the boat until his eyes hurt, before taking the path home, whistling to the song that didn't leave his head, the one he sang to Elizabeth.
