CHAPTER 22

"I was so mad at you when all of the lies came out and now you're trying to get rid of me?'

"I'm not calling you a liar, Cowboy, I'm simply saying that I think you deliberately left things out when you told your story. That could have been either because you are ashamed, or because someone is holding something over your head." Luke answered calmly. He knew that Lucky's indignation was nothing more than an attempt to distract him in his quest for the truth.

"Who could possibly have something over me?" Lucky asked, trying to act cool. "I have done nothing wrong"

"Ok, son, then you answer me this," Luke replied as he looked directly into Lucky's eyes. "If you left because I was oppressing you and making you do things or trying to force my beliefs on you, if I was so horrible that you thought your only way out was to fake your death, leaving everyone to mourn you, including the woman that you loved more than life itself, then why are you here, and more importantly, why are you so desperate because you are not biologically my son?"

Their eyes met for a brief second, before Lucky guiltily looked away. Luke knew everything, Lucky realized. How, he wasn't sure, and it wasn't important, but Luke knew, which meant that Faison and Helena would play harder now. They would back up some of their threats to make him remember the promises that he made to keep his mouth shut. Lucky nearly groaned out loud when he realized that being released was the worst thing, worst kind of torture,, that they could've done to him because they knew, Lucky was now certain of it, that Luke would not rest until he found out what had happened. And when he did find out, it would sign Lucky and Lulu's death warrant.

"Look," Lucky spit out, all trace of easiness and kindred spirits gone, "I didn't come here to justify my whereabouts, I came here to visit with you! If you can't get past the fact that I want to leave the past year in the past, where it belongs, then I can walk right back out and go visit Stefan"

"I've never seen you resorting to blackmail before, which only leads me to the conclusion that I'm onto something," Luke told him carefully, but was surprised when he saw his son stand up.

"Fine, suit yourself, old man!" Lucky said before he walked out, not reacting to his father's voice calling him back.

Luke quickly reached for the phone on his bed table and called a number he knew by heart. "Yeah it's me, I wanna know if Reese is on Lucky's tail--- yeah he was just here-- - remember to be careful, Lucky can smell when he is being followed ---I taught him to recognize when someone's following him--- I know he's a professional, but my son was raised by me and no one can follow me if I don't want to be followed!--- ok, but if he messes up, his butt's mine!"

***************

"My darling, I suppose that Luke Spencer never got you two formally introduced? Cesar Faison, meet my eldest son, Roy DiLucca, which is NOT the name I gave him at birth. Roy, meet my accomplice until further notice, Mr. Faison"

"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. DiLucca, although I am curious about your real name," Faison said, the tone of his voice clearly indicating he could not care less about Roy's real name.

"I could tell you, but in order for you to pronounce it, I'd have to cut off your tongue," Roy said with a sadistic smile.

"Roslyi!" Helena's tone of voice reminded Roy of the one that she had used when he was a child

"See why I changed it to Roy?" Roslyi asked with a frown. "I wish I could say that it was a pleasure for me too, but it would be a bald faced lie. Mother, do we have to talk in front of him? He kind of offense my sensibility"

"Cesar, would you be a dear and go check on our young guest?" Helena asked with a silky smile, although it was clear that she had just issued an order, and that Cesar was less than thrilled about obeying it. Helena finally turned her attention back to her son after the door closed with Faison's departure.

"I don't know why you always manage to get ugly killers, mother," Roy started as he sat down in front of Helena. "Surely you could find some men, maybe not good looking, but at least not disgusting to look at, either!"

"Cesar has been a great ally where Lucky Spencer is concerned, Roslyi. Even thought he has started slacking in his work, I am most grateful for his help in destroying the Spencers."

"If he is so great, then why am I here?" Roy spat out impatiently. "You let me rot in prison because you thought that I needed a lesson about not messing up on the job, and now you've finally remembered me, is that it?"

"Don't you use that tone with me!" Helena warned him. "You had been given the most important mission that could've ever been issued to you by your father and I--"

"But he wasn't my father, now, was he?" Roy interrupted bitterly.

"He adopted you and gave you the security of his name, Roslyi. After your genitor ran out on us, Mikkos helped me pick my life back up and then he adopted you and Stavros! You should be grateful to him, instead of spiteful!"

"Oh,, but I am grateful!" Roy answered, his voice clearly indicating that he was anything but. What he said afterwards proved it. "I'm grateful that I was always a beggar in my own family, when my full-fledged brother was made prince. Mikkos treated me with cold indifference when Stavros, even though he was just a couple of months old, was always treated like he was made out of gold. He was the golden child to you and Mikkos. Never mind that he wronged both Stefan and me!"

"Stavros was perfect!" Helena hissed.

"He was perfect because he was the reason that Mikkos married you! Mikkos had been away for two years and had just learned that his brother had married and that they were pregnant! The Cassadines were started to consider giving the Throne to him since Mikkos was still single and childless!" When Roy saw Helena's face palling, he smiled. "Yes, mother, I know it all. Mikkos met you, saw Stavros and made the arrangements to make it look like you had been married for a year when Stavros was born, so Mikkos could pass him off as the Cassadine Heir!"

"And how do you figure Stavros wronged you, he was just a little baby!"

"Because I was the oldest! Mikkos should've chosen me as the prince! I was three, I was already old enough to understand and I'm not even going to say what I think of what you and Mikkos did to Stefan!"

"You are being ridiculous, my darling. You talk as if Mikkos and I physically or mentally abused you and your weak half brother!"

"Didn't you? I was nothing because I wasn't Cassadine blood! You let me rot in prison for something YOU wanted me to do! As for Stefan, who is the true Cassadine prince, he has been living all of his life in Stavros' shadow, always feeling like he wasn't worth anything because he wasn't the first born, which, technically, he was!"

"I see THAT you've done your homework," Helena said coldly.

"I had a lot of time on my hands during those long and sleepless prison nights"

"Roy, surely you don't believe that I've let you rot in a cell because I wanted to punish you!" Helena asked, looking genuinely hurt. "I, along with everyone else, thought you HAD died from that gun shot wound. When my sources told me that you hadn't, and that you had been giving a new identity, I tried to track you down, only to realize you had changed identities again. Afterwards, I've I WAS very sick and ever since I've recovered, I've been fighting to stay alive, but surely you already knew all of that."

"Yes, I did," Roy admitted. "But all that put aside, what Mikkos put me through, and what you didn't do to prevent it, I have missed you, mother"

"And I have missed you, too! I am sorry for everything and to prove to you that you are just as important as you ever were, I'm giving you a change to right the wrong. You can finish what you started 20 years ago! You have even more reasons to do it now, since he killed your father and brother. And more importantly, you don't have the hard task to befriend him again. I hope you can see how much I trust you, Roslyi. You said you were never treated as a Cassadine, and now, the family's fate is in your hands"

"Don't worry, mother, I won't fail you this time. Luke Spencer's mine. Both your husband and my brother will be avenged"
