"What is it with this place?" he asked, instead of answering his wife's question. "Aren't I suppose to be here to rest? People have bothered me here more in two weeks than at my club in the past two years!"
"I'm guessing that you are alone and decent, so I'm coming in," Laura warned before she opened the door and made her way inside. She had been waiting for a while to see him and she was determined not to leave before she talked to him, even if it meant that she sat through muffled moans while her husband and his tramp were busy.
A rage filled her heart when she put her ear on the hospital room's door. While her life was falling apart, the reason for her misery was simply enjoying himself in his hospital bed with the daughter of the man that he despised more than anyone else, all when while he had CONDEMNED her for befriending his whore's brother.
"Laura, it's been a long day," Luke sighed as she sat by his bed. "I just had a fight with your son, not to mention a fight with your former lover and I don't wanna fight with you"
"Of course you don't, you want to be with anyone but me, don't you?" Laura asked bitterly. "I'm forever banned from your life, just because I wanted to protect you from the truth."
"Oh for Christ's sakes, for once in your miserable life be honest, even if it is only with yourself, Laura. You didn't want to protect anyone but your precious self." Luke answered tiredly. They had been having the same conversation ever since Lucky's paternity had come out. Luke's soon-to-be-ex-wife simply wouldn't let it go. "The truth is that you were afraid I'd love Nikolas more than I did you, and when you figured out that I would love everyone in my family equally, it was too late. You knew I wouldn't forgive you for not telling me sooner. Well, guess what? For once in your life you were right because I will never forgive you. Now, for the last time, get out of my sight! The only contact we are ever going to have are IS through our respective attorneys and it will only be about Lesley Lu. Whatever else you have to say to me , I'm simply not interested in hearing."
"Please, Luke, you can't be serious about taking my daughter away from me!"
"If the paternity test comes back positive, Laura, you will have the fight of your life on your hands. My daughter will not be raised by a liar. Who knows what you've been feeding that child already."
"Why are you doing this to me?" She cried hysterically. "After everything you already put me through, it's still not enough, is it?"
Luke didn't even bother to answer her, he just turned his head away and silently begged her to leave. How he could have ever loved her was a mystery to him now. Without the barriers of his love for her, he saw exactly what she was, a cold and heartless woman. Everything had always been about her, about what SHE wanted, what SHE needed, what was good for HER. Never mind what it cost, or how many people would get hurt in the process of her getting what she wanted. But now, Luke wouldn't be her pawn in hurting the people around him. Not anymore, and he would start by freeing his own daughter from her. No matter the cost, Lesley Lu would be away from Laura's web of deception.
"Luke, please be reasonable," Laura tried one last time and when she saw that he wasn't responding, she didn't have any other choice but to leave. Maybe she'd have a better chance with Alexis. She would have to try to talk to her husband's lawyer, woman to woman. It was her only chance at keeping Lulu.
***************
"Please, Mrs. Lansburry! I really need to see him!"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Spencer, but Mr. Cassadine left me explicit instruction not to have him be disturbed by anyone"
Lucky groaned as he passed a hand through his hair. What was it with him not being wanted anywhere? When he had gotten to the hospital, Luke had left instructions not to be disturbed, and now Stefan had left the same ones. Did they know that he was going to come? Was it their way of making him understand that they didn't want to have anything to do with him?
"Just let him know I'm here, I know that he will see me!" Lucky begged once more. The need to see Stefan was overwhelming. He needed his help and he needed it now! "I promise you, Mrs. Lansburry, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't important. Life and death, even!"
"I'm sorry Mr. Spencer, in all the time that I have worked for the Cassadines, I have never once broken a direct order, and I will not start now. Call him and make an appointment with him next time, it'll save you a useless trip." Mrs. Lansburry said, really looking embarrassed at having to refuse him entry into his father's house.
"Thanks anyway," Lucky said as he turned around, heartbroken. He wasn't welcomed anywhere. He sat on the top step of the front porch, before he buried his face in his hands, the feelings of helplessness that he had often felt while he had been with Faison and Helena were coming back with a vengeance.
Why had he even bothered to come back, when he knew that everyone had moved on? Why didn't he simply move away, far from everyone that he loved, and accept that he wasn't a part of their lives anymore, and just leave them alone? Why open their hearts to him again, only for them to find out that he had changed? Only for them to find out that he could never be the same Lucky, the same guy that they had loved and cherished? Why had he waited to see them slowly turn away from him, up to the point where they'd rather isolate themselves rather than dealing with him?
"Poor Lucky," Helena said with a sigh, causing Lucky's head to snap up to glance at the woman he hated so much, his own grandmother. "It's hard to see that the world moved on without you, isn't it?"
Seeing her before his eyes, knowing that she had seen his distress gave him murderous thoughts. Never in his life had he hated someone as much as he hated her at that moment, gloating, knowing that he was in pain. "What do you want?" He asked bitterly, before he slowly got up. From experience, he knew that Helena was at her most cruel when someone was lower than herself, as it was all it took for her to feel superior.
"Is that the way to greet me, Lucky?" Helena asked sulkily. She needed him on her side, she needed him to realize what she wanted more to happen, and sucking up to him was the only way. "I thought that we got past all of that hatred and animosity during our times together, didn't we?"
"Of course we did, *grandmother*," Lucky spit out. "Funny how you didn't mention that little piece of information when you were in my bed in the middle of the night."
"I would've, had I known," Helena lied. The truth was, she had known all along that the young man she had bedded repeatedly was her own grandson.
She didn't care, nor would she have stopped if she didn't think that it was best to release him to suit her purpose. Lucky had to understand that he had no one in the world but her anymore, if she wanted him to willingly cooperating with her.
"Cut the crap, Helena! You knew it all along. It wouldn't have stopped you though, since you did it to my father, and my uncle!"
It surprised them both that Lucky actually acknowledged Stefan as his father, especially in front of their common enemy. "I'm glad I ran into you, I need a word with you and you are saving me a trip to my former grandson's house" Helena said as she slowly shook her head. "What a waste of intelligence!" She sighed outrageously, thinking about Nikolas. "Anyway, I really need to talk to you, my dear. I wasn't going to, but Cesar actually made me see that I was going to wrong you if I didn't bring this matter to you. And I started to agree with him tonight, after my son left the yacht."
"I didn't know Stefan visits you on your boat," Lucky said defensively. He knew, at least he thought, that Stefan stayed the hell away from his mother. What if it wasn't true? What if he had been about to trust the enemy?
"Don't be ridiculous, my child. My weak offspring wouldn't be welcomed in my home, even if he was begging to come in. I was talking about my eldest son, Roslyi. I saw him tonight for the first time in over 20 years, and we started talking about the importance of fathers in one's life. I started thinking about my situation, and Cesar was actually coherent in his advice for a change"
"Advice about what? And what does seeing your first born for more than 2 decades have anything to do with me?" Lucky asked defensively.
"If you would stop interrupting me, I would tell you!" Helena snapped at him, before her face became all smiles again. "As I was saying, we really need to talk, because I realized you had a say in whatever decision needs to be made"
"Decisions about what?"
"Our baby"
