Chapter 35: Baby, I would.
"Would I walk through fire just to be you?
Would I cross an ocean just to hold you,?
Would I give up all i have to see you smile?
Would I walk through hell and not think twice?
Baby I would
Baby I will
Baby I'll do that gladly
Be all you need
Do anything, to make you happy
Baby I could
Baby I can
Do anything you ask me
Baby I can
Baby I could
Baby I would
Would I be the harbor always there for you?
Would I be the shelter that shield you?
Would I be the loving light to light your way?
And would I defend you with my life?
Baby I would
Baby I will
Baby I'll do that gladly
Be all you need
Do anything, to make you happy
Baby I could
Baby I can
Do anything you ask me
Baby I can
Baby I could
Baby I would
I'll keep you from the cold
I'll be there to hold you
Any tear that's by your eyes
I would be the one to dry them
I would risk it all to give it all to you
Baby I would
Baby I will
Baby I'll do that gladly
Baby I can
Baby I could
Baby I will
show the world you wanna be my world
I can
I would
Baby I would"
Lucky heard Larissa do sort of a gurgle sound and he smiled. She always did that when he sang. She looked up at him and smiled, and he smiled back. He knew that she was still too young to smile by herself, that it was probably only a facial muscle spasm, but when she did that, he couldn’t help but smile back.
He wasn’t even supposed to be there. He knew that he should stay away, but that had proven to be more than he could handle. Faison had disappeared and Lucky knew that when he showed up at the cottage he could be leading his worst enemy straight to his daughter. However, staying away from her had proven to be more than he could handle. He did the best he could, he even stayed away a whole day, but today he had this urge to see her, to make sure she was okay with his own two eyes.
He had told Andreas to go and take a break, not to worry. He told him that he would stay with her, but truth was, Lucky wanted to stay with his daughter, alone. He needed that time like he needed air to breathe.
Before he became a father, Lucky had never understood what his parents meant when they told him that he was everything to them. Sure, he knew that his parents loved him. Luke did, anyway, but he had underestimated the power of love one has for one’s child. He couldn’t breathe at night, thinking that someday, something might happen to Larissa and he wouldn’t be there to protect her. Thinking back at all the months Helena had held him prisoner, he just imagined the kind of pain Luke must have had gone through, thinking he was dead, and his heart went out to his father. He remembered the moments where he thought his daughter was dead, a baby he had never even met, or held, and he had wanted to die just to stop the pain. He could only imagine the kind of pain Luke felt after holding him, kissing him, getting to know him for 17 years.
Lucky shook his head and stood up, before he walked to the window. He didn’t know why he thought about losing his daughter, he didn’t know why he was inflicting himself that pain, and he wanted it to stop. He would not tempt fate . Out of the corner of his eye, He saw Andreas walk back to the cottage, but a man was with him.For a split second, LUCKY thought that Andreas was a traitor, that he was leading Faison, or another one of Helena’s goons right to his daughter, but something about the way the other man walked stopped his thoughts from getting too carried away. The man had long, black hair and a long, black beard but still, Lucky couldn’t shake the feeling that he knew that man, and that the man wasn’t a threat.
As if he knew he was being observed, the man looked up and Lucky saw his eyes. They were piercing blue eyes, the same eyes that Lucky had seen all of his life. "Luke," he breathed in, unable to believe that his father was truly walking up to where he was, and that after nearly a year away, Lucky was finally going to be able to see him again.
Lucky moved to the door at lighting speed and opened it with a bang, scaring the infant in his arms into screaming her indignation for a moment. "Dad," Lucky said, wanting to throw himself into his father’s arms, but knowing that Larissa wouldn’t take too kindly to being squished between the two men. Luke made the decision for him, taking him in his arms while making sure the baby wouldn't be hurt by his big and powerful body.
"Oh, man, Cowboy," Luke breathed in the smell of his son, before he walked back to look at him. "I thought I would never be able to get to you."
"How did you find me?" Lucky asked, looking from Luke to Andreas.
"Helena’s boy toy here—"
"I am NOT her boy toy!" Andreas exploded, indignant.
"Okay, sorry," Luke said, never taking his eyes away from his son and his granddaughter, "your friend here came to get me and said that he knew where you were. At first I thought he was taking me into a trap, but he said that you had your daughter with you. I know Helena believes the child to be gone, so he wouldn’t have told me that if it had been a trap. He also showed me this," Luke said, showing Lucky a snapshot of himself and the baby, one of the rarest pictures Ari, Andreas and Lucky allowed themselves to take of the baby.
"Thank you," Lucky said to Andreas before he took his attention back to his father. "Do you want to hold her?" Lucky asked Luke, seeing that the older Spencer was looking at the baby like a starving man would look at a buffet table.
"Can I?" Luke asked, choking on the emotion in his voice.
Lucky smiled and slowly placed Larissa into Luke’s arms. "There you go, princess," Lucky said to his daughter, "this is the man I talked to you about."
Larissa, though, never happy to be moved when she was content, let out a loud cry, but Luke looked down at her and said in his most commanding voice, "Quiet, child!" and to Lucky and Andreas’ surprise, Larissa sighed and settled in her grandfather’s arms.
"Your dad will come in handy in the middle of the night," Andreas commented with a smile.
"Yeah, you’re telling me!" Lucky laughed and looked at his father, who was oblivious to anything but the child in his arms.
"Helena’s dying, Lucky," Luke said as he finally looked up at his son. "tonight."
"No!" Lucky exclaimed, surprising both Andreas and Luke. "She can’t die. Not yet!"
"I will not let her live! As long as she’s alive, this little angel is in danger!"
"But, dad, you don’t understand!" Lucky pleaded, telling him about what Ari had overheard, about Lucky being the real prince. "I want to know what she meant by that!"
"Why does it matter to you?" Luke asked. "I don’t care wither Stavros or Stefan fathered you, Lucky! And you shouldn’t care, either. I’m your father!"
"I care! This is my life we are talking about, dad! I want to know who my real father is. Ever since Stefan realized that Laura had been pregnant with me when she left the island, my life has been turned upside down. Things will never be the same, so I might as well know if I do have a right to the Cassadine Empire or not. I can right what they wronged, dad!"
Lucky wanted to kick himself for the agony he saw on Luke’s face, but he had to know. Luke could never understand what it meant not to know who you really were, who your parents really were. "Look, dad, no matter what I learn, you will always be the father of my heart. You are the one who has always been there for me. That will never change. But I need to know who my genitor is, once and for all!"
"Fine," Luke sighed. He knew it wasn’t his decision to make, but he knew that Lucky would feel guilty to go ahead without his blessing. "But on one condition. You take the princess out of this country."
"No, absolutely not." Lucky answered firmly. "Larissa stays with me."
"Then I’m killing Helena tonight," Luke said. "I will not endanger this angel by having her near Helena while we are plotting to take her down, Cowboy!"
"But if I leave the country, Helena will know that it’s because I have the baby and I want to take her somewhere safe. She will start looking around for Larissa and won’t stop until she has found and killed her!"
"Then send him," Luke said, motioning to Andreas with his chin. "But either Larissa goes, or no deal, Lucky."
The baby started fussing and Lucky walked to his father, before he bent down and kissed his daughter’s head. Luke was right, he knew that in his heart, but could he bear to be separated from his daughter for any amount of time? What if she became sick and he wasn’t there to take care of her? He didn’t know how long finding out the truth would take, but could he really let her go?
Lucky sighed. He didn’t have any choice. For Larissa’s safety, she had to be out of the Country. "Fine," Lucky agreed. "I will call Elizabeth. If she accepts to take care of Larissa, I will send Andreas with her to the United States. If Elizabeth refuses, I am not giving her to anyone else."
"Fair enough," Luke agreed.
Lucky moved to the phone and asked to make a collect call to the United States, praying that Elizabeth would accept the charges. After all, he wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t. He had left without a word to her, without even a good-bye. He heard the operator ask Elizabeth if she accepted the charges, and he held his breath while he waited for her answer. Finally, he was through to her.
"Hi, Elizabeth...."
