But something in Nikolas' eyes caught his attention. Something was telling him either the boy wasn't lying, or he was led to believe what he had read. Being a Cassadine made Nikolas a lot of things, but Luke had to admit, it had never made him cruel.
"-Tell me, tell me why you had this done again? asked Luke"
Nikolas was relieved to see Luke wasn't throwing him out in the cold. Nikolas knew his father didn't believe him yet, but it seemed he didn't think it was a lie, either. Deep down, Nikolas was relieved. Because a part of him always wanted to be accepted by his step-father. He always longed for the kind of relationship Lucky had with Luke. There was nothing Luke wouldn't do for a friend, even if it was illegal, or immoral. Everyone knew, if you were a friend of Luke's, you were a friend for life. Nikolas always envied those who were close to him, and cursed that, because of his last name, he missed on that kind of friendship. Granted, Luke was the weirdest man Nikolas knew, but he was still the most fascinating, and the most intelligent.
Lucky was so much like his father. Witted, intelligent, full of resources. From his youngest age, Lucky had been able to take care of himself. He knew how to provide for himself and others around him. Nikolas always wanted to be like his brother, and now he found out he had it in him. He always did. Nikolas, for the longest part, wanted to be a part of the Spencer family, although he never told anyone, and not even himself, unless he was alone his bed at night, and now, to know that he always was, a full fledged Spencer, but because of someone, and he didn't know who yet, he missed out on everything. The first thoughts, the clouded ones, left the way to the rage, and indignation. He was 20 years old, and he already had 3 fathers. A rapist, a workaholic, and now, a-- there was no words to describe Luke Spencer.
"-Since I put you in that bed, I wanted to right things and get tested. I was a perfect match for Lesley Lu, I thought I could be for you. She saw that the blood type from my chart wasn't the same she tested, I had the same one you did, I was a match and she did a paternity test. Those were the results.
-Monica always was meticulous in her worrk. Luke said quietly. Did you talk to Stefan about this, yet?
-No I haven't. I wanted to see you firsst. I thought maybe, if you knew, it would give you a reason to fight, to live. But I know I can't compete with Lucky. Nikolas added quietly"
Luke looked for a long time at Nikolas, without saying anything. He could hear the desperation in the young man's voice. If he could, Luke knew Nikolas would trade places with him.
"-All right. Luke said quietly. I'll sign the papers for the transplant"
"-That is simply unacceptable Cesar. We have to find a way to stop Luke from signing those papers.
-How do you want us to do that?"
Helena was pacing the room. Nikolas being a match was ruining all of her plan. She had Katherine play with his breaks, telling her this would get him back and this no-brain blonde believed it. Nikolas was suppose to be the one in that hospital bed, but Luke being there was even better, but now, this was putting a stop to her plans and she couldn't let that happen.
Lucky was walking back and forth in his room like a caged lion. He was starting to be desperate for not being able to break free and get to his dad before it was too late. The door opened and Lucky quickly looked at the visitor. It was a guard. Normally, they never came alone. They came with either Faison, or Helena. But he was alone, and holding a guitar.
"-What is that for?
-A gift from the bosses. They said theyy wanted to reward you for being such a good prisoner and not trying to escape when you learned about your father.
-I don't want it.
-I think you do"
Lucky saw something white coming out of the hole in the guitar. He took the instrument in his hands and quietly thanked the guard. When he was alone, he took the message from it and hid it in his hand, before he went to the bathroom, the only placed he wasn't filmed.
"Boy, I have a way to get to your father. I'm recording everything you play. Make a song for him to understand you are still alive, and I'll get it to him in his hospital room. Tomorrow, at this hour, your father will know you are being held against your will and he will know to fight for his life, and for you.
A friend"
Lucky ate the paper and got out of the bathroom after he flushed. He sat on his bed and scratched the instrument. It had been so long, or it only seemed so, he didn't know anymore. He tried to think about the best song to get through to his father. An hour later, he was ready to be recorded.
The hospital corridor were quiet. A nurse walked into Luke's room with something hidden in her pocket. She went to his IV pole and took a syringe out, and planted it in his IV. Soon, Luke was in a deep, drugged sleep. She took the walkman out of her pocket, and placed the headphone on his ears, hoping this would work. Her life was at stakes. Soon, she could hear a guitar fill the man's ears and she listened to the words of the song he had to listen over and over again.
"Yesterday you came to lift me up
As light as straw and brittle as a bird
Today I weigh less than a shadow on the wall
Just one more whisper of a voice unheard
Tomorrow leave the windows open
As fear grows please hold me in your arms
Won't you help me if you can to shake this anger
I need your gentle hands to keep me calm
`Cause I never thought I'd lose
I only thought I'd win
I never dreamed I'd feel
This fire beneath my skin
I can't believe you love me
I never thought you'd come
I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son
Things we never said come together
The hidden truth no longer haunting me
Tonight we touched on the things that were never spoken
That kind of understanding sets me free
`Cause I never thought I'd lose
I only thought I'd win
I never dreamed I'd feel
This fire beneath my skin
I can't believe you love me
I never thought you'd come
I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son
I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son
I need you dad"
After she was sure the man had listened to the song enough, the nurse quietly exited the room and walked to the closest phone to tell her boss the plan was in motion. The voice on the other line said it had better work or she wouldn't live to see another sunset.
Nikolas entered his father's room with a big smile. His father's room. His heart started beating faster, as he was about to tell Luke some good news. He had been cleared for the transplant. As soon as Luke was strong enough, and as soon as he actually signed the papers, he would have a new kidney. Nikolas was startled when he saw Luke, in his bed, paler than ever before, crying like a scared little boy.
"-Luke, what's wrong? Nikolas asked quietly
-Nothing's wrong. In fact, everything iis right. I'm not signing the papers. I'm not having the transplant. I'm joining Lucky. He needs me"
Luke was unaware that he was just a pawn in Helena's game, unaware that she was rubbing her hands together in delight. Everything was right on schedule, as Luke thought his dead son was sending him a message from beyond the grave, to join him in darkness.
