"-If you don't ask questions, I won't have to lie"
That way Elizabeth always knew he was telling the truth, even in his silence. Ever since Ruby died, Lucky and his father became closer and closer, getting them to work together again.
Lucky smiled when he saw her and took her in his arms. God he had missed her. The last week was hell for him, not being able to call her just to wish her goodnight. Luke had been very clear before they left. No phone calls, no letters, no nothing as long as they weren't back. No one knew where they were headed, no one had to know, and Luke wanted it to stay that way. Lucky understood, growing up on the run like he did, but he still missed Elizabeth.
Elizabeth jumped in his arms, literally, and he held her close, smelling her hair in his face. His heart was beating like crazy, and he was out of breath. His hands were shaking in her back. He was nervous, really nervous. His whole future was riding on tonight.
"-Lucky, please promise me not to leave again. Every time you do, Elizabeth becomes impossible! Said Audrey
-Gram! Replied Elizabeth
-Don't worry Mrs. Hardy. I don't intennd to leave without Elizabeth. Next time, she's coming with me."
Audrey smiled, thinking he was just being cute with Elizabeth. She had no idea how serious he was, and just how close "next time" was. Elizabeth took his hand, and they went up to her room. Lucky was serious, not his usual self, and she knew that was because he had something to tell her, something he couldn't say in front of her grandmother. Without knowing why, that was making her really nervous.
"-Ok, spill it out Spencer, Elizabeth said, as soon as her bedroom door was closed"
Lucky slowly got close to her, put his hand on her side, and slowly kissed her. Elizabeth was feeling his love in his embrace. Love and.... and what? Pain? Desperation? GOOD-BYE?
"-Lucky, whoa slow down, what's the matter?
-I just need you in my arms, that's alll. I'm sorry, we said no lies. Elizabeth, sit down a minute"
Elizabeth sat on her bed, and Lucky sat by her side, like he did so often after she was raped. He took her hands in his, and gently kissed them. He took a deep breath and look into her eyes.
"-It's time Elizabeth. Remember what I told you about the Spencer/Cassadine war?
-That it would heat up again? That's wwhy you did that job for Sonny?
-Yeah. Well, the war started. Helena declared it to my dad before we left, that's why we left, to make our battle plan.
-What was her declaration?
-She sent a flock of hair to my dad. LLulu's hair. We looked behind her ears, and a little spot is missing. We don't know how she was able to get it, but the point is she did.
-That's awful!
-I know. I wanted to stay here and figght, but my dad said it would be better if I left, cause now I have a soft spot and she will try and hurt us by it. By you.
-Are you saying she would hurt me?
-Yes! That's why I have to leave Elizaabeth. And I want to know if you didn't change your mind, and leave with me"
Elizabeth was stunned. So that was what he was planning with his dad. To run. Of course she still wanted to leave with him, but where would they go? And with what money? Lucky didn't save enough to last them 4 months! And they were still minors! Even if Lucky could pass for 18, she certainly couldn't!
"-I know we are young, but we don't have a choice. If I stay here, your life is in danger. But if I leave, I will be constantly worried about you, and I will miss you too much and I know you will too
-Of course I would miss you too much, aand there is no way you are leaving this town without me, but how will we do it Lucky? We are both underage, you don't have enough money to carry us for long, and we can't work since we can't stay in the same place long enough. And what about school?
-Elizabeth, I know all about that, but it really is only for a couple of months, maybe less. It is just until my dad finds a way to hurt Helena, because I made him promise on his life, no matter what happened to me, you, or Lesley Lu, not to take his revenge out on Nikolas. It is not his fault. As for money, my dad gave me some, we will last a while. I have a bunch of phony credit cards too. But, Elizabeth, we have to leave tonight, it's already been too long, and I don't want to give Helena enough time to put someone on us. And you can't tell Audrey either. We will leave her a note but there is no turning back. Remember, no letters, no phone calls. I know she will go nuts, but I know a way to get in touch with my father, he will let her know we are both fine. Now, you have to pack. My stuff is waiting in the pick up, we will leave it somewhere in the next state."
Elizabeth got up and put some stuff in a big bag. She trusted Lucky with her life and if he said they would be OK, she believed him. She had never been on the run before, this would be an interesting adventure for her, like when they lived on the street. They would always be changing their identities, like James Bond, always looking over their shoulders, like some Russian spy. Oops, bad choice of nationality, the person that was putting them on the run was Russian. At the thought of her silliness she laughed out loud, and told Lucky. He was cracking up as much as she did. Every time she wanted to take something with her, like her radio, he would say no, that they needed to stay light. Finally, after taking a couple of tapes, clothes and Boris, she was ready to go. They threw her stuff down her window, and she wrote the letter to her grandmother. It would break her heart, Elizabeth knew it, but what else could she do? It was either staying with Audrey and break Lucky's heart, or the other way around. This was for the best.
Elizabeth left the note on her bed, and she got down with her coat on her shoulders. Audrey asked her where she was going, and Liz answered she was just walking Lucky to his truck. Lucky smiled at Audrey, waved bye, and got out. Elizabeth was looking at her grandmother and she was doing everything she could not to cry and run to take the old woman in her arms.
"-I won't be long, was all Elizabeth could say"
she ran to the truck, got in and started to cry. Lucky wanted to take her in his arms but he didn't have time. They had to get out of there before Audrey had a chance to see what they were really doing. On their way out of Port Charles, Lucky took the girl's hand and put it on his mouth, and kissed it gently.
"-We will be ok angel, I promise
-I know, but she really was my first hoome you know?
-I know, don't worry, she was to you whhat Ruby was to me"
Lucky drove for awhile, but then stopped on the side of the road, at a motel. He was tired, he had been driving all day with his father. They both got out of the truck and went for the registration office.
"-Hi, may I help you? Asked the lady behind the counter
-Yes, we would like a room for the nighht please
-Sure, I'll have to ask for an ID thouggh sir, house policy.
-No problem. Here you go. I'm Richardd Jackson and this is my sister Candice.
-Well mister Jackson, everything is in order, here is your key, I gave you a double room is that OK?
-That's just fine thank you"
Lucky opened the door and Elizabeth got in. She was as tired as he was. They saw two double sized bed, and Liz sat on one.
"-Richard Jackson? She asked
-Well, what last name is more common thhan Jackson? And Richard is always like John you know? You find one at every two corners?
-Why'd you say I was your sister?
-Because I'm supposed to be 19, but thaat's a little odd, since you look young, to be traveling with your girlfriend at that age. I just didn't want to take any chances. Do you mind? In big cities we will be OK, but in little downs, they ask too much questions"
Elizabeth got ready for bed, and Lucky changed while she was brushing her teeth. She gently kissed him and got into one bed, while he took the other. It was really the beginning of their lives. Together.
"-Good night Lucky
-Night. Dreams of gold
-I will, you are with me"
Lucky smiled one last time, before drifting into sleep.
