-I am Mister Himmel, what can I do for yyou?"
Lucky saw an old woman walking towards his desk. He didn't know, when he started working here two weeks ago, that he would be this popular. He was hired to upgrade the computer system and now everyone was asking him to fix their computer. The boss even gave him a raise because he saved the company from a cyber meltdown the other day.
He followed the lady to her own desk, and fixed the problem. It was easy for him, but the world for the lady. She said she was the boss' personal secretary and that she was sure he would get another raise after he saved the day. She had a letter to get out right away, that was extremely crucial, and because of him, she would be able to get it out now. And she was right. Later that same day, the boss called him in his office and offered him the job of director of the computer system, with a generous raise.
They had been in California for two months now, and Lucky was beginning to be nervous. Helena was too quiet. Even at the home front Luke said she hadn't made a move in weeks. That could only mean trouble for them. Lucky was tired to be on the run too. He missed Lesley Lu, his mother and father, Nikolas, Emily, Bobbie, Jerry, and Elizabeth was missing her grandmother terribly.
Today was Jeremy's 8th birthday, and they had planned a party for him. He would go nuts when he'll see who was coming. The boy didn't make any friends here yet, and Lucky was wondering why. Maybe he was tired of being forced to say goodbye to them, just like Lucky was when he was his age. Lucky had asked for the afternoon off, so Elizabeth and him could plan the party. They were taking a huge risk but they talked about it and they were ready to take it for Jeremy.
"-Mister Himmel? Asked their little next door neighbor, I'm Rudy Gatewick, and this is my twin brother Oliver
-Yes, what can I do for you sons? Said Lucky
-You have a son right? About our age?
-Nothing, answered Rudy, laughing, we weere wondering why he never goes out to play.
-Well, Jeremy is quite shy. Maybe if yoou come and knock on our door and ask him to come out and play, he might say yes.
-Thanks Mister Himmel
-Call me Morris. Or Mud, that's how my friends call me
-Ok Mud, bye"
Lucky was laughing as he opened the door. Mud? Where did he got that stupid nickname? Maybe he said it because he knew people believe more easily when you say something personal, and now the little Gatewicks would tell their dad about "Mud" next door. Elizabeth was waiting for him in the living room, Jeremy was upstairs. They started to decorate the living room with balloons and other stuff. They put the gifts they bought him on the coffee table, knowing he would go nuts each time he would pass by them. They were ready an hour later, and Lucky was still hearing Jeremy laying his guitar up in his room. Elizabeth was making juice and putting the beers and soft drinks in the refrigerator. Finally, after what seemed like forever to Lucky and Elizabeth, the doorbell rang.
"-Jeremy, our guests are here, said Elizabeth"
They heard the boy put his guitar on his stand, open his door and run downstairs. He stopped in the middle on them, when he saw who was at the door, then he ran and jumped in his grandfather's arms.
"-BOSS! He said, holding Luke close. Grandma Laura! He later said, taking Laura in his arms. Uncle Nikolas!"
Jeremy was over whelmed. His "aunt" Lulu was there, along with a lot of people he didn't know!
"-Jeremy, said Lucky, I'd like you to meet my grandmother Lesley, your aunt Bobbie, uncle Jerry and your cousin Lucas. This is our friend Emily --
-My girlfriend, said Nikolas
-Really? Asked Elizabeth, surprise
-We'll have time for this later! Said LLucky, laughing. This is Sonny and Jason, Carly and Michael.
-And this is my grandmother, Audrey. Buut you can call her Gram like I do, said Elizabeth
-Wow! Was all Jeremy could say, and eveerybody laughed"
He was grinning from ear to ear, saying hi to everyone, with Luke's hands on his shoulders. He took Lucas and Lulu up to see his room, while the adults went in the living room.
"-I still can't believe you are taking this risk, said Laura, taking the cup of coffee Elizabeth was giving her
-Jeremy is lonely mom, we thought he couuld use some family visiting, answered Lucky
-Besides, it was time for everyone to meeet him. Said Elizabeth.
-I'm not complaining, said Laura, I justt love that boy
-Where's the fur ball? Asked Luke
-In the back yard. JEREMY? WHY DON'T YYOU GO AND GET FOSTER JUNIOR TO SHOW EVERYONE? Lucky yelled"
They heard a herd of Elephant running downstairs and head for the back door. Everybody laughed at Lulu's comment when she saw the dog.
"-He's bigger than Foster! And cuter too"
Jeremy played with Nikolas, Lulu and Lucas all day, smiling and Laughing. Lucky could see how much Jeremy needed a family around him. He could see just how much he was loving having his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins with him. He was already calling Jason and Sonny "Uncles" and Emily and Carly "aunts". Audrey was "Gram" and Lesley was "nana", at her own request.
The boy cried when he saw all the gifts, saying he had never seen such generous people in his life, especially for a stranger, a kid that wasn't even blood.
"-Jeremy, said Bobbie, blood doesn't have anything to do with our love for you. You are a Spencer, a true one. You are a Webber, too. You are a part of our family, forever
-Yeah, I'm adopted too, said Lucas, and that doesn't mean I'm not a Spencer either. They even love me more because they chose us!"
Everybody laughed at Lucas' comment and Jeremy started to open his gifts. He was overwhelmed by everything. His grandparents gave him a radio, where he could listen to all the CDs his aunt Bobbie and Jerry got him, Nikolas gave him a set of detective work, with handcuffs, guns, a fake police badge, handkerchiefs and more. Emily gave him a couple of books with activities, Sonny, Jason and Carly gave him money to buy himself whatever he wanted and mommy said no, Audrey gave him a collection of small cars and trucks, and Lesley gave him a teddy bear to replace the one he lost during their previous run.
Jeremy opened his parents' gifts last. Clothes, music sheets. The last gift was an envelop. The boy opened it and saw a plane ticket, a key and an address on a piece of paper. He looked at his parents, confused.
"-You want me to go? He asked, his eyes full of tears. Where?
-Home, said Elizabeth. You are going wiith Boss and Grandma Laura back to Port Charles tomorrow, while dad and I stay here to close everything. We'll join you there in a week
-Elizabeth, you can't be serious, said NNikolas"
Everybody started to talk at the same time, and Jeremy was looking at everyone, unable to stop smiling. Even though it was dangerous, he wanted to go home. Never, in his life, he had somewhere to call home. Even with Jarred they always had to move, because the teen didn't have the money to pay the rent. Port Charles was home, because Luke, Laura and Nikolas were there. And now, he had all these aunts and uncles to visit. Mom and dad would join him soon, too.
"-Mom, dad, Elizabeth and I talked about it, and we are going home, end of story.
-What about Jeremy? What does he think about his life being in danger? Asked Luke
-I want to go home with all of you! Saiid Jeremy"
Lucky smiled at his dad, saying the subject was closed. The next day, Jeremy was going home with his grandparents, and Lucky and Liz would join him during the next week, after they closed everything here. They would take FJ with them, and drive to Port Charles. They would be together, alone, for the first time since they were husband and wife, and Lucky was loving the idea.
He just prayed to God nothing happened to Jeremy while they were on their way to him, on their way home.
