CHAPTER 18

Finally, they were home! After a week of traveling across the country, Lucky saw the "Welcome to Port Charles" sign by the side of the road. Elizabeth was sleeping beside him, all curled up on her seat, her seat belt in her neck. He was also hearing FJ snoring his head off on the back seat. Well snoring wasn't it, he sounded more like a bear. Lucky missed Jeremy like crazy, and he couldn't wait to see him. He was sure Luke turned him into a hard criminal!

"-Elizabeth? Honey? That's it, we're home.

-We are? She asked with a sleepy voice<

-Yep, I'm about to pull in front of my pparents' house"

Elizabeth was now wide awake. She looked at Lucky and smile. She had the smile of a little girl that got everything she wanted for Christmas. They were home! She never thought this word could mean so much to her. To them. But now, it meant that they would finally have a chance to start their life together. Not as Richard and Candice, or Vincent and Sarah but as Lucky and Elizabeth Spencer.

"-Ready to see your son Mrs. Spencer? Asked Lucky, taking her hand

-I missed him so much, of course I'm reaady"

They walked in, and Jeremy jumped on them. He was playing in the living room with Lulu, but now, no one mattered more than Elizabeth and Lucky. The boy was happy with his grandparents but hey, let's face it, they weren't as cool as his parents. Laura was actually more of a disciplinarian than he first thought, and he was glad to see his parents back with him.

Laura told them everything Luke did with Jeremy, like take him to his club, to Kelly's, meet Mike, Nikolas took him to go horseback riding with him and Emily, Audrey took him to the hospital to show him to everyone, he met his aunt Amy, Nikolas' father Stefan, the police commissioner that Boss kept calling Bubba. Lucky and Elizabeth were laughing at everything Laura was telling them.

The next day, Lucky, Elizabeth and Jeremy went house hunting. Elizabeth was saying they didn't have enough money to put a deposit on a house, but Lucky, before coming back to Port Charles, took all the money on the credit cards of his aliases, that way, he had quite a bundle. They saw a couple of houses, but either one of them didn't like it, or all three thought it was ugly. Elizabeth started to be desperate. They would never be able to find a house all three liked. They were looking for different stuff. The only thing they could agree on was they all wanted a big yard.

Finally, after week of living under the Spencers' roof, they found the house they were looking for. It had a first and a second floor, three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, a kitchen, a living room, a washroom and a spare room on the first floor. The back yard was wider than they had ever seen. The whole propriety was surrounded by a picket fence, which Lucky thought it would be the first thing to go.

The previous owners were selling the furniture with it, which was fine by Elizabeth, she just loved all of it. Jeremy said they would have to build a doghouse for Foster Junior. The deal was sign the same day. Why wait? The house was everything they wanted, right now to the toaster.

They moved in the same week, and they spent the rest of the summer making it feel like home. Lucky spent countless hours with Jeremy in the backyard, building that damn doghouse, helped by Nikolas. Ever since Nikolas went with Lucky's crazy plan to get Jeremy back, the two brothers were even closer than ever before. Lucky was now trusting Nikolas with his life, as well as with Elizabeth's and Jeremy's. Emily was hanging out with them quite a bit too, and the house was always filled with laughter and playful voices.

The house was never empty. Either it was Nikolas with Emily, or Audrey, or Laura, Luke and Lulu, or Bobbie with Lucas, there was always someone with them. The Young Spencers' household was the coolest place in town, and it became even more so when Jeremy started school at the end of August. He was one of the more popular kid in his class, even more with the gals, which the boy hated. He knew he was cute, he told his dad so, but he was tired of the girls always trying to kiss him.

"-You have the Spencer curse son, said Lucky

-Then what do I do?

-Nothing it goes away"

Jeremy laughed at his father, and Lucky punched him. Jeremy never thought he would be this close to another human being after Jarred died, but he found himself loving Lucky even more than he did his own brother, and he was feeling guilty because of it. As time passed, the memories he had of his teenage brother were fading more and more, only to leave him with a vague souvenir.

Elizabeth was home alone, Lucky was working with his father at the club, computerizing everything. The woman didn't know why, but she had a strange feeling all day, like something bad was going to happen. Jeremy was in school, and Elizabeth was struggling with herself not to go and wait for him at the end of the day. The boy was old enough to walk from school alone, but she couldn't shake the feeling they were in danger. Maybe it was because they had been without any news or strike from Helena in months now, or maybe it was just her being paranoid, but she could have sworn there was someone in the car parked on the other side of the street, and that person had been there since early this morning. The doorbell rang, getting her out of daydream.

"-Sarah! My God, what a nice surprise, please come in, said Elizabeth

-Hi Lizzie, I hope I'm not catching you in a bad time

-No not at all, I was bored actually. LLucky's at the club and Jeremy is in school

-What about you? Why aren't you? Sarahh asked, as she sat down on the couch

-Well, when we were on the run, Lucky annd I decided to wait before making our applications, so I'm going in the winter semester, in January. What about you? What are you doing back in town?

-Well, I missed you and Gram, and I wantted to get to know my nephew a little better."

Elizabeth continued to talk with her sister, as her feeling of danger grew so intense, she was having problems breathing. Something was definitely wrong, but what? And why? Was Jeremy OK? Of course he was, if he wasn't the school would've called already. Sarah was talking, not seeing her sister's concerned face, and that was calming Elizabeth down a little. Maybe she should call Lucky and ask him to come home. Or ask him to pass by the school to pick Jeremy up, make sure he was alright.

"-Mom asked me to tell you she will come by sometimes this month to see you and Jeremy. She is really glad to have a grandson, even though dad is still crazy about the whole thing. Said Sarah

-Yeah well, I don't really care what dadd thinks. Me, Lucky and Jeremy are happy and that is all that matters to me. Hey Sarah, come here for a minute please"

Elizabeth showed her the car and asked her if she saw someone inside, or if Liz was just crazy.

"-No there is someone. Are you sure it's not one of the guards Lucky gave you?

-I don't have any guards! Said Elizabetth. We decided against it"

They both wanted to live a normal life, and it wouldn't be possible if they always had someone breathing over their shoulders all the time. But now, today, she actually wished she had one.

Time passed and Elizabeth still didn't call Lucky at Luke's. She was being silly, nothing bad was going to happen to her, Jeremy or Lucky. She was in her PMS time, so she thought it was just her hormone raging.

Jeremy would be home from school any minute now, and Elizabeth was growing impatient. She had to see for herself that he was not hurt in any way. 10 minutes before he was supposed to be home she opened the door, and saw him slowly walking down the street, not a care in the world. He waved from afar, and she waved back, closing the door. He was OK, she said to herself, sighing of relief, but her heart was still going a million miles an hour. Why? This was beginning to be tiring. Elizabeth looked at the car on the other side of the street, as Sarah was still talking. Jeremy turned to walk up the driveway, and Elizabeth saw the car door open and a tall guy came out. He had something in his hand, but it wasn't a gun. It wasn't even a weapon. The guy leaned on the side of the car, and crossed his legs in front of him, watching Jeremy. Elizabeth then understood. It was a device. She quickly opened the door, and she got face to face with Jeremy.

"-GO AWAY, RUN! She yelled"

Jeremy turned around, and saw the man. Something was wrong, but he didn't have time to think, he was thrown on the ground.

Elizabeth saw her whole life flash before her eyes as the explosion happened, and the house crumbled on her.
