CHAPTER 9

"I think someone is in need of a pacifier, to help him calm down," Luke said, looking directly in Jerry's eyes and the boy slowly took his hands off of Luke's desk before stepping backwards.

"Look, I'm sorry Mr. Spencer, but I really, truly need your help," Jerry admitted quietly. "See, Helena kidnapped me a few days ago, and she took me to see my mom."

"So? She took you to the cemetery, what's wrong with that?" Luke asked with caution, taking a puff of his cigar. "I admit that it's a little strange, but I don't see why you need my help"

"If you had stayed quiet long enough for me to tell you, you would!" Jerry answered, exasperated.

"Your friend has quite a temper, doesn't he?" Luke asked Toby and he saw the boy quickly nod. ‘Man this kid is about to faint from fear!' Luke told himself. His sister's grandson was white as a sheet and Luke saw that the boy was trying to keep his hands from shaking. "Are you ok?" Luke asked smiling, "you look like you are about to pass out"

"Could I have a glass of water?" Toby asked timidly

"This is a bar! I don't have water!" Luke answered gruffly and smiled. He always loved to torture little kids. "I'm kidding, CLAUDE, GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE WITH TWO WATERS PLEASE"

"As I was saying," Jerry said loudly so that he would finally get Luke's attention, "She didn't take me to the cemetery but to an old mansion at about an hour that way," he said, pointing north. "And my mother was there, she's being held in a cell."

"Toby, could you do something for me?" Luke asked his great nephew and the boy nodded. "I need you to go out there, in the club, and see what's keeping Claude while I talk to Jerry here okay? Claude is the big black guy." After the boy left, Luke turned his attention back to Jerry. "Ok, two questions. Who told you to tell me this, and why?"

"I told you, don't you listen?" Jerry was getting frustrated. "My mother put me up to this, she said that if I ever had problems with Helena to come and see you, that you were the only one I could trust when it came to her. As far as I know, my mother being held hostage in a cell is a big problem with Helena, wouldn't you say?"

"Before your mother died, I hadn't seen her in months," Luke countered back. "I cared for her, but she decided that she wanted to side with your father, so I let her be. Lurch and I never got along, so your mother and I stopped being friends. And now you are telling me she thought about sending you to me, instead of your father? Why should I believe a 6 year old kid?"

"I'm 7!" Jerry nearly shouted. "And my father didn't believe me! I didn't want to come here, because I knew my mother was wrong about you, that you were the man you were trying to make everyone believe you were!"

"What kind of a man did she say I was?" Luke couldn't help but ask curiously

"She said you were a caring man, even though you try to make it look like you don't care about anyone or anything"

"Well, she's wrong right there, because I care about my family and I am not ashamed to show it."

"And you cared about my mother. You proved it to her," Jerry finally said, ready to use the weapon his mother gave him without even knowing she was doing it.

"And how did I prove it to her?" Luke asked. This kid was amusing. He really was his mother's son, Luke remembered somewhat tenderly. Natasha had never backed down from a discussion until she knew that all of her points had come across the way she wanted them to.

"The year you told her who she was, you brought her something for Christmas," Jerry said and saw, in Luke's eyes, that he was remembering what Jerry was talking about. "It was a tape of her mother's voice, and Helena would've killed her if she told anyone about that tape. She told me that because I said I was scared to come in here and ask your help against Helena, and she said that you were a caring man, and that I had to trust you. But now I see that she was wrong."

Luke stared for the longest time at the boy in front of him. He never thought about that tape anymore, and until Jerry talked mentioned it, he had forgotten about it. Clearly Alexis didn't, since she gave that piece of information to her son. What was he thinking about? Alexis was dead, wasn't she? Luke went to her memorial service, he went to her grave! Was it possible that, maybe, Jerry was right and Helena was keeping Alexis hostage, like she did Lucky for a year before Luke and Sonny had found him? Who would gain from making him believe Alexis was alive, and who would be shameless enough to use Alexis' own kid?

"Ok," Luke finally said before he sat down again. "Let's say that I admit that I am starting to believe what you are saying, and that I might look into what it would take me to free her out of that cell. What will you do in the meantime?"

"Mom told me that if Helena knew I talked about her being alive, that Helena would kill her," Jerry said quietly. "So I never mention her again, to anyone"

***************

"And then what happened?" asked Toby to the big black man, a ketchup soaked fry half way to his mouth

"Nothing at all. See, that's how Luke is. He appears all gruff, but he has been threatening to fire me for 8 years, and he still hasn't done it. Heck, I'm practically his partner now, so you have nothing to be afraid of," Claude told Toby. "Wait here, I'll go get a soda for you,"

Toby nodded and watched the big man leave. Even though he was bigger than Luke, Claude was less frightening. At least to Toby's eyes. The door opened and he turned around, coming face to face with Helena Cassadine.

"Well, well, well, I didn't know Luke was into entertaining little boys," Helena said sweetly. "Hello young Mr. Corinthos, how is your great uncle treating you?"

"Uncle Luke is fine," Toby said with a raised eyebrow. "He's showing me how to work in a bar, why?" The boy knew better than to let Helena know he was here with Jerry. He had to buy time so that Claude would come back and hopefully throw her out.

"Oh, I was just asking, I haven't been in here since, oh before you were born, I believe," Helena said before she slowly turned around.

"Too busy killing people?" Toby asked defiantly.

"I see Jeremiah's influence in you,"

"If you think I answer you because Jerry's my best friend, you don't know my mother," Toby laughed. "Now, please leave, you are not welcome here,"

"I won't be thrown out like some hoodlum by a little worm," Helena said, insulted. "I'm here to see Luke and I intend to stay until I do!"

"I don't think so," Helena heard and looked up, seeing Claude looking over Toby. "You are not welcome here, and I won't be afraid to forcefully remove you from Mr. Spencer's property."

"You obviously don't know who you are dealing with!" Helena hissed and Toby laughed.

"She's like the wicked witch of the west, she tries to intimidate us," the boy said

"And like the witch, sleep with one eye open my dear," Helena said and turned to leave, but she heard the little boy's voice in her back as the door closed.

"You don't scare me, my dad will kill you if he knows you dared to talk to me!"

***************

"Ok, you got me curious kid, I'll check into it"

"There's more," Jerry said with a smile. "But this information is gonna cost you"

"More? What do you mean, there's more?"

"I know something that would make your life happier, way happier, but that information will cost you. It won't be free like my mom being alive."

"Ok, what would this information cost me?" Luke asked curiously

"Ok, first you have to promise not to call my dad Lurch, and my uncle a dingo dog," Jerry started.

"First? How many demands are you gonna put on me kid?"

"A couple, but it's really worth it, it's something you've wanted for 12 years of your life, at least!!" Jerry answered an nodded his head. "Ok, second thing, you have to stop scaring Toby every time the poor boy sees you. He almost peed in his pants!"

Luke roared with laughter and Jerry joined him. "It's not my fault that his no good of a mother told him things about me! Ok, what else?" He asked when his laughter died down

"I want a cigar and a beer," Jerry said seriously and Luke raised his eyebrow. "I want to know what it's like, but dad won't let me taste either. So I figured that it could be a good thing, now that you want something from me, to ask you for it"

"Ok for the beer but you don't light the cigar," Luke said seriously and saw Jerry about to protest. "That's my final offer, now spill your guts"

"Caroline Benson, Carly Roberts, Carly Corinthos, her, well, she isn't your niece. She isn't Bobbie's daughter. Bobbie's daughter is being held by Helena, too, so the truth won't come out"

"You are kidding me!" Luke said, an astonished look on his face, the hand holding his cigar slowly going down.

"No, I'm not," Jerry beamed at Luke's facial expression. "Do you know Venus Ardanowski?"

"Red head, motor-mouth, not that tall?"

"Yeah, that's her. Well, she's your niece. I don't know the whole story, only that Helena is keeping her so the truth wouldn't come out"

"That information is worth way more than what you asked of me, kid!" Luke said, before he gave him a cigar and took a can of beer from the little fridge. "There you go"

"So will you help me?" Jerry asked as he took a sip of beer and wrinkled his nose.

"Only if you promise not to get involved, you let me work on my own, and NEVER come in here to ask me anything about your mother. She is dead, we don't talk about her ever again."

"Deal," Jerry agreed and extended his little hand and Luke shook it. "So we are partners now?"

"Hey dad, are you here?" Both guys heard from the door and they saw Lucky walk in, holding a little girl's hand. "Who's your friend?"

"Jerry Jacks, meet my son, Lucky Spencer," Luke said and smiled at his little granddaughter. "Hey, princess!" He said before he picked the 5 year old girl up.

"Who's the chick?" Jerry asked and took another sip of his beer to act tough, just as Lucky walked behind him and bent down to talk in this ear.

"Her name is Liana and she isn't a chick!"

Jerry stepped and nearly dropped his can on the floor, before he quickly turned and smiled sheepishly at Lucky. "Sorry"

"Jerry, take Liana to see Claude and Toby, I need to talk to Lucky, alone," Luke said, before he kissed the girl's cheek and put her down on the floor. "We have some business to discuss"

"Are you gonna tell him?" Jerry asked, suddenly scared. "What if he tells someone?"

"Jerry, remember the rule. Whatever I say, and do, is none of your business. You were told to trust me, you do just that. Now, go," Luke answered and watched the kids leave before he turned to his son. "You up for a rescue?"
