Chapter 18

Laura came in the room and saw Elizabeth, sitting my Lucky's head, her hand gently brushing his hair from his forehead.

"-I'm sorry, am I intruding? Laura asked

-No at all. I mean, he is your son. You have more right to be here than I do

-That's nonsense Elizabeth, Lucky loves you with all his heart. What were you telling him?

-Not much. I was about to do something stupid when you came in

-What was that?

-Well, a couple of months ago, I was really out of shape, and Lucky sang me a song to make me feel better, and I was about to do the same for him when you came in, but that's stupid

-It's not stupid Elizabeth, I'm such Lucky would love to hear it. Do you want me to go?

-No that's ok, you can stay, as long as you don't laugh

-I promise I won't"

Laura took a chair and sat by the end of the bed, watching Elizabeth starting at Lucky. The young woman started to stroke his hair again, and she began to sang, her voice nearly a whisper;

"In your eyes

To be with you"

Laura looked at Liz, and she wiped the tears from her eyes. How could she laugh when it was so beautiful? Lucky was still in his bed, not moving even a muscle. Laura asked how Liz was taking the news about him not being able to have any children and Elizabeth sighed. She needed to talk to someone, and she knew her grandmother was out of the question. Audrey would freak if she knew they already slept together, under her own roof no less. So Elizabeth found herself telling Laura. Her mother in law was shocked. Lucky was so down on waiting, why did he gave up to Elizabeth?

"-You think he will be mad? Asked Elizabeth

-Mad? I don't know, but knowing Lucky the way I do, he will probably worry. About money, about health, about your young age.

-But what other choice do I have? If I have an abortion, we will never be able to have children of our own again.

-Elizabeth, I would love to be able to tell you what to do, but this have to be your decision, yours and Lucky's, not mine.

-I know Mrs. Spencer, but I really don't know what to do!"

Laura stayed with her most of the day, and Elizabeth was tired by the end of it. The next few days would be even harder, as the time passed and he still wasn't regaining consciousness.

Elizabeth was still sitting in Lucky's room, passing her hand in his hair. It had been a really tough week-end on everyone, including Audrey. She was always coming in Lucky's room, checking up on him and Elizabeth. He had been out of it for 4 days now, and the doctors were wondering what was taking him so long to wake up, and Elizabeth was saying that was because he knew that, as soon as he woke up, he would have the lecture of his life and he was just putting it off, and Nikolas was laughing, saying his brother was a coward. Elizabeth was exhausted, and she hadn't eaten anything in forever. Laura was constantly telling the young woman she had to take care of herself, for her and the baby, but Liz was sick as soon as something entered her mouth, other than water. As for sleeping, she caught sleep here and there while she was holding Lucky's hand.

"-Elizabeth? She heard, from a hoarse voice

-Lucky? You're awake? I'll go get the doctor! Liz came back soon after that

-I see you are finally awake, said the doctor. How are you feeling?

-Like I've been hit by a train.

-Well, it wasn't a train, but close enough. Answered the doctor while examining him."

While the doctor asked questions, Elizabeth was just looking at Lucky, still amazed that he was alive, awake, talking. His face was slowly regaining some colors, and his cuts and bruises were smaller than before. Well, they looked smaller anyway. The doctor said he would order some tests, and left them alone. Elizabeth took his hand and sat next to him, on the bed.

"-Well, we finally have the proof that I'm more hard-headed than you are, Lucky said

-Why is that?

-Cause I too got hit by a car and I didn't lose my memory! He said with a little smile

-Yeah well, I have a stronger body cause at least I didn't have anything broken! Elizabeth answered, laughing. I missed you!

-Can I have a kiss? Or we still aren't allowed?

-Anything you want Lucky, forever"

She leaned down and kissed him gently. His lips were dry, but it was better than anything she ever tasted before, because the kiss was full of life. They were still kissing when Laura and Nikolas rushed in the room. Elizabeth laughed and sat on the chair, while Lucky's eyes grew wide open at the big flower bouquet Emily brought in. The girl put it on his table and smiled at him.

"-Can't I get a hug? He asked

-I'm afraid to pull anything out, she answered

-No chance, come on"

Emily leaned down and, as soon as she touched him;

"-OUCH!

-Oh my God, she said, jumping up

-Psyche! Answered Lucky, with a big smile

-LUCKY! Said Laura, that was not funny! You scared us!

-You're sick man! Said Nikolas, laughing at his girlfriend"

Lucky was regaining strength as the hours passed by, but he also slept a lot. He moved out of the ICU the next day, much to Elizabeth's pleasure. She would finally be able to make the move she thought about since they told her he was out of danger.
