Chapter 5

Elizabeth was sitting in Mark's car, regretting her move. She didn't want to be here. She didn't want his hand on her thigh. He was taking her to the hill, and she didn't even know where that was. But she knew what they would do once they got there, she wasn't stupid, but she was scared.

Why was she scared? This was certainly not the first time she was in a car with a boy to go make out on some hill. Why was it different now? She wasn't just scared, she was terrified. Her hands were cold, and her stomach was in knots. She wanted to go back, be in a public place, safe, but she didn't have the heart to ask him. What if he got mad and hit her? But, as soon as the though crossed her mind she became upset. Why on earth did she think something like that? What happened to her that no one was willing to talk about?

Mark parked the car and turned to see her. She was looking through the side door window, to hide the tears that were slowly coming in her eyes.

"-Liz? Mark asked, are you OK? Would you rather we go back?

-No Mark, I'm ok, she answered, looking at him."

He got close and took her head in his hands. She was so beautiful, and, finally, she was here with him. For over a year now, he had a major crush on her and, even though at that time she wasn't acting like she was Lucky's girlfriend, Mark knew she was off limits. Spencer was getting mad every time a guy looked at her too long. Lucky even punched a guy when he insisted on Liz to go out with him. Every one knew, at that moment, to stay clear of Elizabeth Webber. But tonight, she came on to him. And Lucky saw them together, and he didn't care. Whatever happened between them was none of his business and it was Lucky's lost, his gain.

Elizabeth was watching him get closer to her face, and her stomach turned. She couldn't do this. When his lips finally touched hers, tears started falling down her face. She wanted to break it off, she was about to vomit, but she was too terrified of what he might do if she pushed him away. After all, she asked him out tonight, she moved on him, but for what? Because Lucky pushed her away?

She thought of Lucky, his kisses, his touch, and she closed her eyes. Why, when she was with him earlier, she wasn't afraid? She wasn't terrified? She felt home in his arms, safe, whole. Why did he move away? Did he love her? What did she do wrong? Asking herself these questions, she didn't see that Mark was working on her shirt. She gasped for air, and looked for the door handle. She had to get out of there, before she died. She finally opened it, and fell on the ground. Mark was asking her what was wrong, but she wasn't hearing him. They only thing in her mind was a whisper. "NOT A WORD". She got up and started running. She had to get away from him as soon as she could. He would hurt her, terribly, but she didn't know why!

Mark got in the car and went after her. She was running, with tears rushing down her face. When he caught up with her, he took the window down and begged her to get in the car, that he would take her home. He wouldn't touch her. But she was looking straight ahead, like she wasn't hearing him. She kept whispering no, and Mark kept begging her to get in. He didn't want to leave her there, but herself, in the middle on nowhere. When he saw she wasn't responding, he stopped his car and waited for her to get away, but he followed her closed, to be sure she was ok.

Lucky was sitting at Kelly's counter, drinking a double chocolate shake with extra whipped-cream, and he couldn't get the image of Elizabeth going with another guy. He knew that this vision would haunt him for a long, long time. But who was he to do something about it? Elizabeth made it clear that she would see who she chose, when she chose it. Right now, she chose to be with Mark Sinclair, a guy who spent his school year drooling over her, who would it be tomorrow? Lucky, not taking it anymore, threw some money on the counter, got up and turned around. The vision he had got him back to that night in the park.

Elizabeth was rushing in the restaurant, her hair out of place, her shirt half way out of her skirt, her face full of tears and her eyes. Her eyes empty of emotion, looking in front of her but without seeing anything.

Elizabeth saw Lucky, but that's all she saw, before rushing in his arms. He stroked her hair, while the two other people in the restaurant was staring at them. Lucky gently started walking towards the stairs, yelling at Tammy that he was taking a room for a while. He took a key off the board and head up the stairs, helping Elizabeth.

He opened the door, while she stared at it. Elizabeth was the first one to come in, and, as soon as he closed the door, Elizabeth looked at him and, without saying anything, she started punching his chest with her two fists. Lucky said for her to cut it out, it was hurting him, but she continued, while the tears ran down her face again.

"-What happened to me Lucky? She said, when she finally calmed down

-Elizabeth, sit down please, he said pointing the bed

-I DON'T WANT TO SIT DOWN LUCKY! I WANT ANSWERS!

-Did Mark hurt you? I'll kill him if he did

-Lucky, Mark didn't hurt me, but someone did, and I want to know how, and why

-Why are you crying if he didn't hurt you Elizabeth?"

Liz started walking in the room, and, without even realizing it, she was talking;

"-I don't know why I am crying. All I know is that I was terrified of Mark touching me, kissing me. I was afraid he would hurt me if I said no to him. When he started to take off my shirt, I panicked and ran. While I was running, a voice was in my head, whispering the same thing over and over again. It was saying Not a word. While I was in the hospital, I made the same dream every night. I'm in a park and someone grabs me. I can't remember the dream in the morning, but I wake up terrified, and in tears. I know it's not only a dream. Something happened to me, and I think that, somehow, it has to do with you.

-What do you mean? Asked Lucky, nervous without knowing why

-Well, first of all, everyone told me you helped me through the worst time of my life. I know in my heart that I trust you, but there's something more.

-Like what?

-Tonight, I was terrified of being touched by Mark, I felt like throwing up and yet, earlier, you were kissing me and I loved it. I was aching for your touch Lucky, she said, blushing. And don't tell me it's because I don't like Mark because I've kissed guys I didn't like before and I was never terrified of them. I feel like, I don't know, I can trust you with my life. I felt like I was finally home in your arms, why did you pull away? She asked, in tears."

Lucky's heart was breaking. He knew Tony told him to tell her if she asked concrete questions, but could he bear the sight of her disgusted face again? Could he bear to see the pain in her eyes? But she would find out sooner or later, might as well be from him than anybody else.

"-Elizabeth, I will tell you but you really need to sit down. We promised each other long ago never to lie to one another, he said, after she sat next to him, so I will keep my promise tonight and tell you everything about that night. Everything I know"

Lucky, closing his eyes, was taking back to the night she asked him out.

"So, are you going to go to that dance tomorrow night?

-You know, I just got in this morning. I forgot about it. Are you going?

-Oh. I don't know. I was thinking about it. You know, just for laughs.

-Yeah.

-But I don't want to get hit on by the pity patrol, you know? I mean, if I wanted to dance with those dorks, I would have asked them out myself, right?

-I know what you mean. Well, I might go.

-Oh?

-Well, what else is there to do on a Friday night around here, you know?

-Nothing much. Hey! Well, you know, why don't you and I meet each other there? I mean, we don't have to do anything, we can just hang out for the night. Besides, then people will see us together and they'd leave us alone, right?

-That sounds cool.

-Yeah?

-Mm hmm.

-Oh. Ok cool. Well then I guess I'll see you tomorrow night.

-Sure.

-Great. Look for me, I'll be the one in the dress."

Lucky looked at Elizabeth because she was stating at him.

"-Why are you looking at me like that? He asked

-You still remember everything we said?

-I will remember it for the rest of my life

-So what happened? She asked"

Lucky looked deep into her eyes, and took a deep breath
