CHAPTER 1

Kiara was waiting for Lucky to pick her up. They were going to the movies, and he was late, as usual. She was freezing, waiting outside the house by the intersection. Lucky could not pick her up at her house, her father would have a heart attack. He was really protective of her, and Lucky was not the kind of guy he would want her to see.

She was 17 years old, and when she would bring guys home, her father would have them into a military inspection and usually the guy would run from her. Last guy she dated lasted till New year's, when her father threw him out, because he showed up at 12:30 AM just to wish her a happy new year. Her father was going crazy and he kicked the boy out, telling him never to come back. He never did. Now, she wouldn't let him take Lucky away, and by not having them meet was the best way.

Kiara had been raised only by her father. Her mother died giving birth to her. Robert, her father, never remarried. In a way, Kiara was happy because she never had to deal with step-mothers she couldn't stand, like a lot of her friends. She was close to her father, when he didn't go into his "father" mode. But, in the other way, she had missed having a mother figure in her life. She had to learn how to put make up on, about her periods, about boys, all by herself, either from the school nurse or her friends. Sometimes she would stay up late at night thinking about what it would've been like to know her mother, to talk to her about her latest crush, about the movies she liked, the songs and the singers she was going gaga over, girl stuff in general. But her father was always there for her, listening to her, showing her how to fish, about life, her grandfather's philosophy, he really was a good father, and she would give her life for him. Most of the time.

She finally saw Lucky's pick-up truck pull on the side of the road, and she hopped on. She didn't even kiss him hi. She was mad.

"-Hello to you too, said Lucky
-You're late.
-I know, I had to pick my little sisterr up from the dentist. My mom couldn't do it for some reason. I stopped trying to understand her. Anyway, Lu wasn't finished when I got there so I had to wait.
-If it's for your adorable little sisteer, Ok, I forgive you, Kiara said, kissing him on the cheek.
-What did you tell your dad?
-I said I was going to Jenna's house. If he calls, her mother will tell him we went to the movies.
-I hate that you have to lie like that<
-Me too. But I have no choice. My fatther would never let me go out with a Spencer. Face it Lucky, you are a bad boy. You live on your own, you have your own pick-up truck, you have an earring, your father's friends were mobsters, all that at 17. No, it's best if he doesn't know about you. Yet.
-As you wish. What should we go see? -Your choice"

Kiara felt him take her hands and she bit her lip for the 1000th time in a week. She wanted so much to tell him she was in love with him, but she didn't know how he'd react. He didn't even ask her to be his girl yet. They had been dating for a little over three months now, and she knew he wasn't dating any other girls, but why didn't he asked her to make it official yet?

She knew he was going with this other girl before, and she broke his heart. She wouldn't do that. Not to her Lucky. He was already so important to her. He was tall, handsome, compassionate, good, smart, generous, respectful, gentle and honest, just to name these few, how could she help but love him? He was already giving her so much confidence in herself, in her writings, he gave her the will to stand up to Robert once in a while. He was just a reckless. His dad would've been proud of him, if he didn't die at the hands of a life-long enemy.

Lucky told her how his father died trying to protect his mother against Faison, an old enemy. But he was doing fine without him, even though he was often at odd with his mother. He said she still missed his father, but it didn't stop her from being with a man his despised for a long time.

"-You know Lucky,
-What? What do I know? He smiled, loooking at her for a split second
-You're the best
-I am? I mean, of course I am!"
Kiara could help but laugh. He was so sweet. He was the one she was going to marry. She just knew it in her heart. Lucky Spencer would be her husband. One day.
