CHAPTER 18

"-Son, take Kiara and your mother upstairs and stay with them. Said Robert, with a calm he wasn’t feeling

-What’s going on? Asked Lucky

-JUST DO WHAT I SAY, NOW!"

Lucky took Elizabeth and Kiara upstairs. Robert heard the door close and show the way to the living room to Tom. He offered him something to drink and sat down when Tom refused. He had to remember he was Robert and Robert didn’t know Tom. He just had to find out if it was only a scam.

"-Now, care to tell me how you found out about Kiara and where she lived? Robert asked, his hands joined on his thigh to keep them from punching the smile out of Tom’s face

-When I got out of prison, I went to look for Montana, my fiancee, and I learn she died a long time ago and no one bothered to tell me. I went to the hospital and they told me she died giving birth to a little girl. My little girl. I saw Robert Jackson’s name as father, and I know Montana wouldn’t have cheated on me. So I just looked for you and here I am.

-What are your plans? About Kiara I mean?

-Get to know her. She is my flesh and blood. I learned she got married, and I wasn’t there to walk her down the aisle. I want a relationship with her

-When hell freezes over. Robert mumbled through his teeth

-Now why is that? I have a right to her you know!"

Robert got up and started pacing the room.

"-Right to her? No one has a right to anyone you pathetic excuse of a human being! I know who you are, I know what you did, and I know you never paid for it!

-What are you talking about? I had 15 years, isn’t that enough?

-You had 15 years because you tried to escape, remember? But you were never caught for the real crime you committed

-And what would that be? Tom asked calmly

-You raped a woman. Robert saw the look in Tom’s eyes, the look of pure surprise. Yeah, Elizabeth Webber, February 14th, 1998. In the bushes, in the park. Wanna know how I know?

-What are you talking about?

-I was the one who helped her through it. I was the one who helped her and Emily Quartermaine get you in prison for blackmail.

-Impossible. That was Lucky Spencer and he died the next year.

-Well you heard wrong Baker. I’m back with a vengeance and you aren’t getting anywhere near my daughter"

Tom got up and the two men were face to face, in a silent confrontation. Lucky used to be intimidated by this man, even if he stood by Elizabeth. Now, looking in his eyes, all Robert saw was a broken man. He was still scaring the crap out of Robert with what he was capable to do, but he was ready for him now. They knew who he was.

"-You can’t keep me from having a relationship with Kiara. Tom said

-She is an adult and if she doesn’t want to see you, we’ll get a restraining order. How do you think she will feel knowing her father is a rapist

-I don’t know, you tell me"

Before Tom could say anything else, Robert’s fist meet his jaw. Tom fell on the ground with a big thud, and Lucky called from the top of the stairs. Robert told him to bring Kiara down, and Elizabeth, but to be ready to leave if they had to. He said to tell Elizabeth Tom Baker was in the living room. He didn’t want her to freak out.

Elizabeth slowly walked in first, followed by Lucky and then Kiara. Tom was looking at Elizabeth, obviously undressing her with his eyes. Everyone was uneasy and Lucky took his wife’s hand before they sat down on the couch.

"-Elizabeth, beautiful, as always. Tom said with a smile

-I don’t care what you think, Tom. She answered

-I thought you were married to Nikolas Cassadine though. Tom said with a smile. Does he know his wife hangs out with his brother?

-Please. Whispered Kiara. I don’t know what happened between all of you, but please stop. Thomas, you wanted to meet me. Here I am. I’m married, I love my adoptive father with all my heart, I love my husband, I had a wonderful life. I won’t let you come in here and upset my father and my mother-in-law. I’m sorry, but I’d like you to leave now.

Tom slowly got up and looked at his daughter. He smiled a warm smile and Kiara smiled back.

"-I’m sorry Kiara, I didn’t mean to upset you. Some stuff happened between your adoptive father, your mother in law and I a long time ago and it was never resolved. They think I am a monster, but I’m truly not. It was all a misunderstanding. I will leave, since you are asking me to, and you have my numbers if you need to reach me, or if you want to get to know the real me"

Before Robert could say anything Tom walked out and Elizabeth sank to the floor. Her whole body was shuttering, and big tears were running down her face. Robert kneeled down, like he did when he found her in the dark room all those years ago. Lucky and Kiara watched, amazed, at how Robert didn’t need to talk to calm Elizabeth down, just his arm over her shoulders and his rocking back and forth did the trick. Robert gave Elizabeth a kiss on the cheek and stood up, before he helped her up. She had stopped crying and she smiled at the teenagers.

"-I’m ok, seeing Tom just brought painful memories. She explained

-He’s the one you told me about, isn’t he mom? Asked Lucky

-Yes he is. Lucky, can you do me a favor and get your guitar? I haven’t heard Lucky sing in a long time

-What are you talking about mom, I sang this morning!

-I was talking about this Lucky. She answered, pointing Robert

-This is getting confusing. Lucky answered, and everybody laughed.

-How about I call my Lucky Lucas, and my son Lucky stays Lucky? When the two of them are here that is.

-Your Lucky? Asked Robert"

Elizabeth blushed and Lucky laughed as he ran upstairs to get his guitar. His parents were more and more close to getting back together and for the first time he was seeing his mother truly happy. He ran back downstairs and nearly broke his neck when he missed the last step. Robert told him to be careful, it was the only guitar they had.

Lucky sat on the couch with Kiara by his side, while Elizabeth and Robert sat on the couch in front of the children. Lucky said he would sing for his father the first song he wrote. It was his mother’s day’s gift of his 12th year, a tribute to his mother’s friendship for his father.

"Time passes, the world changes

But I'm still the same ole' kid

And your jokes still bring me laughter

As if you still were here

And it hurts

When I smile

'Cause my heart still remembers

When you were around

'Cause you were there

When no one was

Just when I thought nobody cared

You showed me love

'Cause you were my friend

You always told me

And I am still here

Because you were there

So precious, small treasures

A time when truth was innocent

True friendship, was all we were after

A place where kids could still be kids

And it hurts

But I'm glad

'Cause at least I was blessed

To have you as my friend

You're my best friend

There are no accidents

God has a plan for everyone

And he brought you in my life

To show me what a good friendship was, 'cause

'Cause you were there

When no one was

Just when I thought nobody cared

You showed me love

'Cause you were my friend

You always told me

And I am still here

Because you were there"

Robert wiped a tear from his eye, and took the guitar away from Lucky. He sat back next to Elizabeth and smiled. He was about to start playing when there was a knock on the door. He got up to answer it and saw Stefan and Lu Ann standing there. He asked them to come in and "jam" with them.

"-Aw great Stefan, you come here and you bring her with you? Asked Lucky, obviously mad.

-Any child of Elizabeth is a child of mine. Robert answered.

-Uncle Lucky! Said Lu Ann as she ran in his arms and sat on his lap.

-His name is Robert butthead! Answered Stefan

-Hey! No name calling in my house! Said Robert, looking at Stefan"

Robert gently pushed the girl onto her mother’s lap and took the guitar again. He asked Lucky if he knew any cool songs and smiled when he heard his answer. He scratched the instrument once or twice before he started singing.

"If everybody had an ocean

Across the U.S.A.

Then everybody'd be surfin'

Like Californi-a

You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies

Huarachi sandals too

A bushy bushy blonde hairdo

Surfin' U.S.A.

You'd catch 'em surfin' at Del Mar

Ventura County line

Santa Cruz and Trestle

Australia's Narabine

All over Manhattan

And down Doheny Way

Everybody's gone surfin'

Surfin' U.S.A.

We'll all be planning that route

We're gonna take real soon

We're waxing down our surfboards

We can't wait for June

We'll all be gone for the summer

We're on surfari to stay

Tell the teacher we're surfin'

Surfin' U.S.A.

Haggerties and Swamies

Pacific Palisades

San Anofree and Sunset

Redondo Beach L.A

.All over La Jolla

At Waimia Bay

Everybody's gone surfin'

Surfin' U.S.A."

Everyone was laughing when the song ended. Stefan had joined singing in the middle of the song, followed by everyone. The doorbell rang and Robert got up to answer, coming face to face with Emily and Lesley Lu. The reunion of the two friends was heartwarming, and Robert invited them in. They decided to take the growing party into the backyard, and they continued singing songs. They didn’t see the car parked on the other side of the street, Tom inside watching them.

"-Soon, Elizabeth, my love, you will see just how special was what we had. You will know the real reason I made love to you in the park that night. It wasn’t just a coincidence, like everyone wants you to think. And since that day, I’ve been aching to be with you again. Soon"
