"-Oh come on Luke, said Nikolas, can we open our presents?
-Yeah, can we dad? Asked Lucky
-Can we Luke? Asked Liz
-Ok, Ok, already, open the damn presentss!"
The "kids" shouted, while the "adults" laughed at them. They were all around the Christmas tree, and Lucky went for the stockings, but Elizabeth stopped him. She didn't want him to open it in front of everyone. They decided they would each open one gift, and wait till everyone had open them to take on the next one. Liz took the paintings and gave it to Laura. She was anxious to see her reaction. Laura's eyes were full of tears, and she hugged Liz tightly. She gave her gift to Lulu, and everyone else. Lucky took the package she gave him, and kept his hand in his a little longer than necessary. Her gift was a watch, with the words "lucky and Lizzie, September 15, luv ya" written in the back. There was also a medallion, two hands holding each other. Nikolas loved his book, and Emily put on her bracelet right away. Luke grinned when he saw the cigars, and he said he would love her for the rest of his life, lighted one up, and put the cap on his head. Sarah loved her perfume, Jeff lit his pipe and Madeline put the sweater around her shoulders.
"-Ok, my turn, said Laura"
She gave Liz an antique painting she found months ago. She gave her son a new earring, begging him to throw the other one away. Nikolas gave Lucky a new guitar stand, and he gave Liz new sets of water-color pencils. Elizabeth had never seen such different colors in the same box. Jeff and Madeline gave Lucky some Cd's and they gave Liz Audrey's bracelet, and her wedding ring. Elizabeth looked at her parents, her eyes full of tears. Lucky looked discourage and said to his in-laws
"-You really want me to break my vows don't you?"
Liz started laughing and took the gift Sarah was giving her. It was a beautiful dress she made. Finally, it was Lucky's turn. He gave gifts to everyone else. He knew Liz was dying to know what he bought for her. She opened the box by tearing it apart. It was a charm to put on the bracelet he gave her on her 16th birthday. It was still on her wrist. It was an angel.
"-Oh Lucky it's beautiful she said softly
-I guess you won't wait in line to returrn it then"
Elizabeth smiled at him and kissed him gently. She heard her parents and her in-laws say "aaaaaawwwww", Lucky looked at them and smiled.
All the gifts were given away, and Lulu was sleeping in the middle of the wrapping paper, the doll Liz gave her in her arms. Lucky was always looking at his stocking. Elizabeth had tried all night to keep him out of there, and that was just good to make him even more curious. Finally, he had enough.
"-Time to check the stockings. He said, getting up
-No, stockings are for Christmas morningg. Liz said
-Is there a particular reason you want tto keep me out of there? They are my gifts you know!
-Well, if you open them now, you won't hhave anything to open tomorrow
-I don't care, I want them now.
-Lucky I think you should wait until we are alone to open them! Liz said and from the tone of her voice, he backed off right away."
They went to bed soon after that. Elizabeth was really tired. She still couldn't believe what he did for her that night. He came out of the shower and went in the room with nothing but a towel. Elizabeth looked at him and smiled
"-I can take a peek? She said
-Don't start what you can't finish womann. He answered with a smile
-Oh but I can finish. So what do you saay Mr. Spencer? You think God would mind?
-There's just one way to find out my deaar"
She was kissing him passionately, when he backed away. He took the towel off, and put his boxers on.
"-Why put them on when I'll take them off?
-I thought you said you couldn't?
-You are too smart for your own good. NNow come here before I slash the wet towel on that precious little behind of yours."
Lucky laughed and took her in his arms. Liz was thinking about the baby. Would it feel anything? But then she laughed at herself, of course not!
Elizabeth woke up that morning, lucky was gone. She looked at the alarm clock and saw the time; 6:45 am. She slept only 4 hours. Where was Lucky? He fell asleep before she did, what was he doing up? He was not a morning person but then she thought;
"-The STOCKING!"
She quickly got up and ran downstairs. Lucky was sitting on the couch, his stocking in his hand, but she could see it was still full. He didn't open it yet. She smiled at him and sat next to him.
"-I wanted to open them, but I decided that what ever was inside, it was very important to you and that I would wait for you.
-Well, you can open them now"
Lucky smiled at her got the first gift and quickly unwrapped it. His face changed when he saw the pacifier.
"-What the hell! He said."
He opened the next one and saw the teeth ring. Elizabeth could see the wonder in his eyes. The next one was the rattle. Lucky looked at Liz, took at deep breath and said;
"-Elizabeth, what are you trying to tell me?
-Well, I think you are a big baby Lucky!! What do you think I'm trying to tell you? -My God! Are we really have a baby?
-I'm afraid so"
Lucky was looking at the pacifier, and then he looked at Elizabeth. He passed his hand in his hair, like he always did when he was nervous. Elizabeth could hear his brain working a hundred miles a minute. Finally, he said;
"-What are we going to do about this?
-I don't know. I haven't thought about this. I spent all my time thinking about how to tell you, I didn't think about what to do about it.
-What about school?
-I don't know Lucky! I don't even know how you feel about this!"
Lucky got up and started pacing the room. He didn't know what to think about it. A baby? Did he want a baby? Was he ready for a baby?
Liz was nervous. Talk to me Lucky, say something, she thought. She would give anything to know what he was thinking right now.
"-Ok, here's the plan, we will finish this semester together. I thought about it, and you are supposed to have it in August right?
-Yeah
-Good. Next semester, I will go. You sstay home, get your strength back. Follow me so far?
-Yeah
-Ok. In January, we will ask to have ouur schedule matching
-Matching?
-Yeah. We will try not to have our classs at the same time. If you have a class Monday from 8 to 11, then my first class will start at 11. So that way, one of us will stay home with the kid. If we can't, you'll go to day class, I'll go to night class. I will finish school on semester before you. While your finishing, I'll stay home and take care of it. After that, we will come back here and it will be almost time for the kid to start pre-school. Am I making any sense here?"
Elizabeth couldn't believe her ears. In 10 minutes, he had figure out the solution to their problem. One of them at least. He sat back on the couch and took her hands in his, while a big smile came on his face. He leaned down, kissed her, and put his head on his wife's belly.
"-Is there really a baby in there? He asked, while rubbing it
-That's what the doctor said.
-A baby? We're gonna have a baby? Wow""
Elizabeth was stunned. She was ready for an outburst, or something, not that kind of reaction. He was actually happy about it. Laura walked in at that moment, and saw her son's face on Elizabeth's lap.
"-Is everything ok? She asked
-Yeah, everything's perfect. Grandma"
"-What did you just say?
-Elizabeth and I are going to have a babby. He said, with a smile on his face
-WHAT? WHY? Don't you think you are tooo young for that?
-Well it happened. The baby's here, comming, and I'm happy about it"
After saying that, Lucky realized it was true. He was happy about it. Having a baby with Elizabeth was the best thing that could've happened to them. Lucky looked at Liz, realizing she didn't say much about it. He squeezed her hand, and she smiled back. He could read in her eyes how much she was relieved of his reaction. Laura was shocked. She thought Lucky said they would take things slow and they were having a baby?
Lucky took Elizabeth in his arms and kept her there. He was telling her, with this embrace, that everything was going to be all right. Elizabeth kissed his cheek, and wiped a tear from her face.
"-Oh not again! Said Lucky with a smile"
