Lucky couldn't believe he's been living with Elizabeth for more than two weeks now. Their relationship was slowly moving. Their embrace was far from burning passion, but it wasn't just kissing anymore. Yesterday, she took his shirt off, while they were kissing, lying on the bed, side by side. He sat on the bed, took his shirt off, and she sat on him, to feel his skin on her hands and lips. He fell on his back, and she fell on him. Her hands was going up and down on his chest, while her hair was in his face. She was so beautiful his heart was missing a beat every time she would look at him. Lucky never thought he would feel this way about someone. The expression "the ground moved" when you kissed someone was just for helpless romantic he thought, but, with Elizabeth, it wasn't just the ground, the whole universe turned upside down every time he kissed her.
A knock on the door took him out of his thoughts.
"-Did you forget your keys? He said when he opened the door, but stop right in the middle of it. Mrs. Hardy?
-Hi Lucky, may I come in?
-Certainly"
Liz's grandmother came in, and looked around her. Lucky was uncomfortable. Finally, Audrey looked at Lucky and smiled.
"-I guess I have to thank you for being here, or I would've had to wait in the hall.
-It's no problem Mrs. Hardy, I was justt waiting for Elizabeth anyway.
-Mind if I take a look around?
-No, suit yourself.
-How come she has twin beds next to onee another?
-Well, Her landlord offered her a king sized bed, but Elizabeth thought it would be best to have two beds, in case one night she got scared and wanted me to crash here, just like I did when she lived with you. So when I stay here, we separate them, and when I'm not, she has a big ed just for her.
-Really? Then how come there is a man''s razor in the bathroom? Along with man's aftershave and a second toothbrush.
-Mrs Hardy, with all due respect, I am always here with Elizabeth, so after my meal I take care of my dental hygiene, as for the razor? Why always bring mine from my dorm room?
-Ah"
But she didn't looked convinced. Lucky was dying here, he knew that, but he couldn't tell her the truth, she would flip out on him. Finally, Liz passed through the door.
"-Gram? What are you doing here? She said after a glance at Lucky
-Well, I thought I would leave you somee time to get settle in and come see where you would live for the next year. Is that so terrible?
-Of course not, I missed you!."
She said, while Audrey took her in her arms. Elizabeth was really happy to see her, but she was also really nervous. Lucky was dancing on one foot, and she knew something was wrong just by looking at his face. Liz and Audrey sat at the kitchen table and they talked about everything. Audrey had heard from Sarah, she wanted to come back after Christmas. Liz was happy her sister was coming back, but a little pinch of jealousy ran through her spin as she remembered the crush Lucky once had on her. After running out of things to say, Audrey said to Liz;
"-Now that we put the chit-chat out of the way, wanna tell me what's really going on?
-What do you mean?
-Well Lucky told me a beautiful story oon how he sleeps here when you don't feel like being alone, and I have to say it was a nice try, but I didn't buy it one second. Now I suggest you tell me the truth right now. Are you too living together?"
Elizabeth looked at Lucky. She didn't know what to say. Might as well tell the truth.
"-Yes Gram, we are.
-That's what I was afraid of. I knew iit the minute I saw this place. Man clothes in the hamper, his and hers stuff in the bathroom, his books on the desk in the bedroom. Elizabeth, how could you? You knew I was trusting you.
-Gram, it's not what you think. We aree not sleeping together. Well, not in that way anyway. We each have our own bed, they are just next to each other. I tried to get a room at the dorm, but there was none left. When I found this apartment, I asked him to move in with me. He didn't want to, I insisted. He didn't want our beds together, I insisted. This is not Lucky's doing.
-I never said it was dear. But Lizzie,, you do understand this can't go on.
-WHAT?
-Hum ladies, I have a class to attend tto, so I'll leave you too talk. Bye Mrs. Hardy. Elizabeth, said Lucky, while kissing Liz on the cheek."
Liz was so angry she started pacing the room. Why every time it was going great between them something had to go wrong?
"-Elizabeth, dear, you are a minor, and there is no way I'm going to let you share an apartment with your 17 year old boyfriend. Now, either you move out, or he does.
-Oh he will move out gram, WHEN HELL FRREEZES OVER!
-Elizabeth, you don't need to shout at me! Did you really think I would not find out about this? I knew you would try to pull something like that, I just didn't know when. You are under my responsibility, and I won't let you do this. Now I know that Lucky is a very nice boy, and that you care about him very much, but you are just too young for this.
-A very nice boy? Care about him? Graam I love him. He is my whole life. I'm sorry you can't understand that. He has always been there for me when I needed him. He is the only person I can count on, the only steady thing I have in my whole life! When I thought nobody cared whether I lived or died, he was the one to show me it wasn't true.
-Elizabeth, as good as Lucky is to you,, it is not good to stay with the same boy at your age, let alone live with him! How long do you think he will be ready to wait for you? He is a healthy young man, he will not wait forever and then what? You will give yourself to him so you won't lose him?
-Gram, remember valentine's day this yeear? I was a mess. I re-lived the whole nightmare again. It was horrible. I would wake up screaming over and over again. But Lucky was there. He was sitting on a chair, in my room, waiting for me to wake up from a bad dream to console me. He didn't sleep at all that night gram, so I would feel safe. Every time I woke up screaming he took me in his arms, and caressed my hair until I fell asleep again. Is that the boy you say will give a sex ultimatum?
-You are not living with him and that iis that!
-Well I'll ask Lucky what he thinks aboout that!
-He is gone to class
-No he isn't. He doesn't have any classses today, his schedule is right on the fridge. He is just sitting in the hallway, waiting for us to stop talking
-Oh that's ridiculous.
-Is it really? She opened the door. OOh Lucky, could you come in a minute?"
Audrey heard some noise, like someone getting up from the floor, and she saw Lucky coming in the apartment. She was stunned. Elizabeth knew him so well it was amazing. Still, she couldn't let them live together, and she was sure Laura would agree with her if she knew.
"-I can't put some sense into her, Liz said to Lucky, maybe you can.
-Well I don't think it is my place to ssay anything, this is between you and your grandmother.
-Gram, I found the most understanding, gentle, funny, loving man you could ever know, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, and you want me to give it all away to date some lunatic like Tom?
-Elizabeth, I never said that! I just think it is best if you see other people that's all
-But we do see other people Mrs. Hardy,, this afternoon we were supposed to go see a movie with Greg and Melissa, friends of ours, Lucky said with a smile.
-Lucky, I like you very much, I really do, but there is no way I'll let you two live together.
-Oh there is a way, and Gram won't likee it.
-And what's that? Asked Lucky
-Marry me Lucky."
