THE OBLATE CUP
Schedule
The Oblate Cup is the oldest and most prestigous event on the TWGA Calendar. It began in 1983 when three original Toukley Wanderers - Ian Nicholls, Greg Sadler and Paul Gwynne - played a competitive round at Penrith Golf Club. Gwynne led going into the final hole but his disastrous encounter with its enormous sand bunker allowed his rivals to snatch a joint victory. During the game, the players souvenired one of the many pine cones scattered across the course, and this was later fashioned into the now famous trophy.

The mysterious title "Oblate" comes from the religious order to which Paul Gwynne belonged, in recognition of the fact that the hand of God thwarted him in that bunker and indeed plays a crucial role in every golfing endeavour.

The Oblate Cup is traditionally played in February. Since the original Cup was held at Penrith, subsequent tournaments have been played at various courses: Glenmore, Leura, Riverwood, Woodville, Boomerang, Calderwood and Tuggerah (for many the true "home" of the Cup).
