We fans know of course what the ToD story is about, but for those who're kind of new to the matter, or not-so-hardcore-fans who'd like to learn the full picture, I'll just give you a short summary on what's ToD all about.sarge-zw.jpg (8020 bytes)

As some of you might have noticed, Tour Of Duty (ToD) was a TV-show about the Vietnam-war. The series never were really popular and therefore only three seasons have been recorded, in de late eighties. In some countries such as The Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and other scandinavian places, the series did reach an enormous popularity. Lots of merchandise was available in the early nineties but these days it seems as if ToD never ever excisted. Few websites on the series are available, as a matter of fact I've found only one. The once so popular actors are mostly longlost forgotten, with a few exceptions. You can find all on this in the actors section.

Basically the story is about an american platoon encamped in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. We saw some all american guys, at first very excited to go to a real war, but after seeing the true horror and cruelty of it, very eager to get back to the States. All kinds of aspects are dealt with; racism, drug abuse, personal losses, corruption, etc.

The platoon itself develops from a light infranty brigade (the 196th!) to a Special Operations Group (SOG) in which we get to know some great characters lik Sgt. Anderson and Ltd. Goldman, and 'ordinary soldiers' Percell, Ruiz, Griner, Doc Hock and many, many more. Love, friendship and comradeship with allies as well as enemies is what this epos is all about.
I must say I'm very sorry the series never became a Nam-hit, which movies like Platoon did. I consider it to be a very objective view on the real war and therefore it's a shame the show is so undervalued. I guess some people still fear facing the truth...
