Why do we need to know Korean?

How do we study our Korean Terminology?

Like for any test, our minds best retain information if it is done gradually to allow short-term memory to become long-term memory.  The medical school students from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Korean Martial Arts Society will definitely tell you that any memory-aids and nemonic devices will be helpful.  Through personal observation, the most popular way to study terminology is to use note cards so that you know both the English and the Korean equally.

At first, it would seem unnecessary to take such great measures to learn terminology.  You'd say, it's enough to go over the terms the night before the belt test, right?  Unfortunately, through our personal experiences, it didn't work.  Students tend to be nervous during test examination, so you may experience temporary amnesia and may not pass the terminology portion of the exam.  This is an encouragement to know your terms well.  Go over the Korean term when given the English term and know the English term when given the Korean term as well.  Also, it is not uncommon for students to have been tested on terminology from earlier ranks.  This is because learning is culmulative, so be sure to stay on top of things to get your mind in fit!  Don't throw away those note cards!

"I need help!"

For any help concerning how to pronounce these phrases, please see your instructor.  They would have heard and used these phrases many times.  And if you are a beginner and do not know Korean yet, don't feel shy!  Count in English during class. It will impress us and your motivation will inspire us.   It is the spirit that counts!
