The
little RadioBoston.com banner ad archive!
"And memorial type thingy (sniffle)"
DISCLAIMER the first: (Legal-type stuff.) I'm not associated with any bands, musicians, or anything else mentioned here that I didn't invent myself, and the following isn't meant to be an endorsement or the opposite. Please don't hurt me.
DISCLAIMER the second: The same bug that occurs on the Maine Ads page might happen on this page as well (STILL not my fault). If you get a script error and are unable to see the images, try reloading this page until you do. I can pretty much guarantee that this will end up being my last graphics-heavy Readable anyway.
Also, these ads were made to be best viewed with Netscape Navigator, so if you use Internet Explorer like I do, please be kind.
I'm starting this one out with a big, frikkin' groan.
As of this Monday (July 15, 2002), RadioBoston.com is... well...
Well, according to my boss, we're officially "on hiatus". That is to say, our station is not dead, it's just sleeping.
Really, really soundly.
For me, this was just the latest in a long, long line of bad news. I don't want to bother you readers with that (the last thing I want is anything resembling one of those demented weblogs), just know that I was already pretty depressed when I found out about this.
Since there's no better way to cheer yourself up than to beat the news into the ground (apologies to all the message boards with RB-related SPAM), this page is a little tribute; nay, a testament! I was one of the station's graphic designers and my forte' was banner ads for the shows and bands. I collected some of my favorites to preserve here. Let's cue up "Goodbye to Yesterday" (okay, Boys II Men aren't a Boston band; it's still a damn sad song) and start the sad little trip down memory lane with...
1) TT the Bear!
The ad for the club T.T. the Bear's Place (check the Related Links at the bottom for more info on it and the other clubs) was one of the first ads I remember doing. I had a lot of fun doing variations on it. Putting TT in a Santa hat around Christmas and so on.
2) Crappy Animations

"Crappy Animations" is the actual name of the folder these three ads are to be found in the RB hard drives. I made them using my minimal Adobe Imageready skills. Major apologies to whomever's foaming at the mouth over these.
3) More clubs, shows, and fifteen minutes of fame!

These are two more early ads. They didn't really fit into any other category. Erm... moving on...
4) "the Prettiest Ads"

I love playing with different filters and crap in Photoshop. How could you tell? I think the "Permanent Vacation" one is my absolute favorite.
5) the Funniest Ads!

I swear to you, I died when I made the "Deathray Davies" ad. Best band name ever...
IF "Jack's Smirking Revenge" didn't exist. And Jack's ad is one of the last ones I ever did. *sigh*
Like I said, RadioBoston.com is officially "just sleeping". Keep us plugged in by visiting the related liks please!
