| February 2003 Shop officially opened in the temple premises facing the main road for self employment project. 08 girls working. They have started sewing pillow cases initially. Requested the villagers to use the services of this project for all their sewing needs. Distributed school books for the new year. Out of the cost of Rs 7,300, Rs 3,900 contributed by Ms Champa Athauda and friends, Rs 500 by Mr Sumith Wijesinghe, staff member and the balance from PHD fund. Rs 3,000 being cost of meals for January/February “Sil” programme was contributed by Mr Sunil Peiris, staff member. Advised to provide meals by each family on a roster basis commencing March “Sil” programme. March 2003 Rs 4,000 contributed by Ms Neranjala Jayasekera, staff member. A meditation programme was conducted at the village by Mr Gunapala Uggalla Meditation Instructor of Sarvodaya for the school children at the village and for the adults at the temple. April 2003 Rs 25,000 contributed by Ven. B Saranankara, a Sri Lankan priest living in Malaysia (contact of staff member Champa Athauda). Created a Supervisory Board (SB ) consisting of three young men and one woman ( nominated by the priest ) from outside the village to be a link between the village and all of us. This was a suggestion of the priest. The activities of the village was separated as follows. Each to be under the leadership of one villager and managed by our team. Underlined is our team leader. Avrudhu activities were conducted on a small scale. Prizes were distributed to the winners. May 2003 A good private tutor Mr Priyantha Gamage was identified to commence classes for the junior children at the preschool from 1st June 03 covering the subjects of Maths,Science and English. Twenty one faimilies were handed over different types of plants to be planted at the preschool premises. June 2003 Volunteers were found to sell the finished goods at the garment shop. The need for all children to attend Sunday school was stressed. The private tutor has done an evaluation of each child. HNB Wellawaya branch had granted loans of Rs 10,000 each to 10 villagers – 09 for onion cultivation and one for a tea boutique. July 2003 Improvement in sale of finished garments seen. Villager Kamala Dissanayake employed at a monthly salary of RS.3,500 to manage the garment project w.e.f. August 03. |
