Even though this drawing was developed over two 2hr sessions where the model resumed the same pose, it was not completed (in the traditional sense). My response in this drawing was to the flow of tones over the back of the model. It reminded me of a drawing by Michelangelo . The model was unable to continue modelling in the same pose (all models have to move at some point in time - part of their transience). The quest to capture the subtlty of the tones in this particular back was gone. But, on looking at the semi-finished drawing, I could see that the drawing could 'live' under the title "Shade". The drawing is a 'shade' like Michelangelo's "Sibyl"; a few 'shades' off being completed and a study of shades. |
