Metaphoric meaning is not far off when representing the human figure. As an artist positions her or his self in relation to a pose or sets up a pose, the potential for a figure to take on 'symbolic' or metaphoric meaning increases. Of late, I have been particularly interested in 'self touch'. Though content drawn by the 'Divynol's' song 'Every time I think of you I touch myself' is not excluded, the interest is more centered on casual public touches than private moments. The metaphoric meaning is most often centered on 'self regard' or the impact of 'self upon self' as a symbol for psychological 'self governance'. |
Hatch is an early example of taking 'hatching' into my ink work. The program of hatching that I use is to select odd as well as conventional shadows as parts that cause an eye to be able to 'read' a figure's form. |
