nf7-s rev2 souththbridge cooling (9 july 2003)
To measure the SB temperature, i've attached to a thermistor (10C accuracy) to the the SB with an electrical tape. .
My system has a 92mm side case fan (~5v) and another 92mm internal side fan (~8-9V). The first fan is directly above the nb, and the second is cooling the vga/pci cards (below), and also provides some cooling for the SB. Both fans are likely running at ~20-30cfm, and are pretty quiet.
The SB temperature measurements were taken 4 min after the fan were swicthed on/off, in the exact order shown below, in a single windows session, with the computer case fully closed. The ambient temperature was 75.30F/24.10C
SB temperature, 0F/0C | |
both fans off | 137.3/58.5 |
side case fan on, internal fan off | 133.3/56.2 |
both fans on | 111.2/44.0 |
both fans off | 134.5/56.9 |
The last measurement was done to show that the SB temperature went up again 4 min after both fans were off. The SB was easy to cool, and benefits from having a small heatsink and/or some air movements around the chip.
