Love on the Internet
It's two weeks today from when we present ourselves to the Australian Immigration department. We are kind of afraid and yet confident.

In Australia today, as the world has heard, many come to Australia to seek refuge from the hostility in their countries. They seek illegal refuge, which we pay for, and end up becoming citizens of our country. That, in my mind, is understandable. But, the Prime Minister of Australia must draw a line somewhere.

4 days ago Missy and I shed many tears for her country when terrorists attacked America. I am Australian and as many,
my heart bled for not only the lives that were lost there but for the hundreds of thousands of family members that also suffered.

With immence sadness I watched those we have hosted in the immigration camps raise their arms and cellebrate! They have been taught great anger for our sister country and yet they come here for refuge and cellebrate their saddness! This hatered has killed thousands and hurt hundreds of thousands. I can see why our Prime Minister must draw the line for the boat people to stay in our country!!

Missy and I...and
our children, are so much in love! We seek peace and the betterment of this country. Missy is so proud to fly her American flag, but also our Australian flag.

My job as a youth worker was part of what drew her to me. Together we make a powerful team to help those less priviliged! Missy will be a wonderful asset to our country. I have supported her since she has arrived and she will not be "bloodging" off our government. She is here legally, and legally we seek our governments approval. Her reasons for wanting citizenship here are not like those of the boat people. We simply fell in love and we must stay together. The kids call her MaMa...what would they do if their MaMa was not here anymore? It is not an option!

Australia is one of very few countries who support same sex relationships. Together, we have built our lives as a family and if we were to be separated it would feel no different for us as it has for those who have lost love ones in the USA. So, quietly we are hopeful.

In about 4 weeks time we will know our destiny. Pray that ours is together, forever!

I will update this site in two weeks and then again in 4 when we know the out come. You see, if Missy's visa is declined, she will be deported and not allowed back for 5 years! In comparrison to the heartache in America at the moment and for those around the world who have also lost loveones, our plight seems insignificant. But for us, we have both lived through incredibly hard lives and we have found what we have searched all our lives. It just can't be taken away from us! Our children can't lose what we have either.

Now we wait. 12 days to go and our fate will be decided. I will post what happens on this site so please pop back from time to time. Kara and Missy

THE OUTCOME

Hmmm, not bad not good! We went to the Immigration department and the two ladies that interviewed us were lovely. We were both very afraid and I guess they picked up on our nerves. We were interviewed seperately and asked the same questions. None were invasive like we were told they would be so that was nice. They said it was obvious that we were in love, there was was no doubt about that. The only real problem we have is the sad events that happened in New York a few weeks ago. You see, to gain the two year visa we are seeking for Missy to stay here she MUST have an American police clearance, which is fair enough. The problem is that the US have got higher priorities finding terrorists and the like. So, until we can get that clearance we can't get an answer on her visa. It may take anywhere from six months to two years. That means Missy can't access our Australian health system or be allowed to work. Financially that puts a major strain on us but......she can stay until they say otherwise!!! That's the best news. She has what they call a "bridging visa" which will mean at least we don't have to travel in and out of the country every 3 months! So, again we wait....and keep on waiting! That's okay though, at least we are still all together as family. We'll keep you posted. What we would like to do though is thank all of you for visiting our website and supporting us with the kindest of emails and messages on our gusetbook. Please pop into our site from time to time as our future unfolds. If anyone has any advise for us, please either email us or add to our guest book. We have met some beautiful people through this site and feel very, very blessed...
1) That we found each other and
2) That we found you.    Thank you! Stay tuned........
