Before class:

Ø I will have the room organized, with putting up little holders on the wall to hold the student’s folders by the door.  This will be a procedure that I will explain later.  This is for them to pick up, and put their homework and papers in.

Ø I will make a sign by my door that has my name, subject, and room number.

Ø Prepare a syllabus for the class that will have class policies, class procedures, and all the other important information that I will need to explain to them.

Ø I will prepare an assignment on the overhead that I will have the student do as soon as they get in the class.

Ø I will have arranged my desk in the turtle shape for the students.

Ø I will be putting little cards on desk for the arrangement for the student to sit, I will have them play the match game as they walk in the room to find their seats.  I will give them a card as they enter the room, and tell them that they will need to find the picture that matches the problems that I gave them at the door.

Greeting at the door:

Ø I will be at the door greeting each student as they walk in the room.  As they walk in I will give them a card with a problem.  I will tell them to try to find the picture on a desk that matches their card, and that is where they will sit.

Ø I will let them know that they need to get their folder on the wall as they enter the room.  In each folder there will be some handouts that we will go over for the first day of class.

Ø I will also let them know that there is bell work on the board/ overhead that they need to get started on.
Welcome and Introduction:

Ø I will enter the class and tell them I am glad to have them on the first day of school.

Ø I will tell them that they have about 2 minutes to finish their bell work.  While they are finishing their bell work I will take roll by looking at my seating chart that I made with the match game.

Ø When the two minutes are up I will then introduce my self.  I will describe a little about me and my family.

Ø From there I will have the whole class stand up and introduce themselves by standing in a circle, and playing the game that you think of a work (adj.) that describes you that start or sounds like the first letter in their name, and then you say the word, your name, and an action with it.  I will start and then the next student will start.  The catch to this game is that you have to say every person’s name, word, and do the action that every person did  before you.

Ø They will then return back to their seats

Ø Then I will talk to them a little about what I expect the year to be and how excited I am about teaching
