Ø I will then tell the students to get out their syllabus from their folders they picked up in the front to the class.
Ø It will explain the basic course information
A. What we will do through the year
B. What they will be expected to learn
Ø It will have my contact information on it.
A. I will have numbers, email, conference, free time, or best time to contact me.
Ø There will also be a list of class materials they will need within the class.
Ø I will also have on there the grading scale that I use to grade the students.
Class Policies:
Ø I will then instruct my students to take out their class policies handout that is in their folders.
Ø Discuss overall discipline philosophy.
Ø Discuss what can happen if a student chooses to break a rule.
Ø Explain rules, and have student agree or disagree on rules. If they disagree they need to give a reason why and what would be a better rule.
Ø Explain that class rules will always be reinforced.
Ø Explain detention policy.
Ø Explain tardy policy.
Ø Discuss the importance of academic honesty.
Class Procedures:
Ø I will ask the students to take out their procedures handout out of their folder.
Ø At this time I will explain to them why we need procedures in a classroom.
Ø I will explain to them the difference between procedures and rules.
Ø Then I will explain and rehears the procedures.
A. Entering the Classroom
Step 1--Explain-- When we start to go over this one I will show them while I am telling them about it. I will walk over to the door and pretend that I am entering the classroom. I will tell them that when you enter the classroom there will be some folders hanging in a slot that will be arranged by classes, and you find your name on your folder, and that will be the folder that you get. So I will walk in and grab a folder. Then you go to your desk. So I will walk in grab a folder, go to my desk, and sit down. When you get your folder here is where you get your returned papers, any papers you will need for that day, and also you will turn in your homework that is due for that day. Then you bring your folder back by the door where it goes. So I will go to the door and pretend I am entering the classroom. I will grab a folder and go to my desk. There I will take out any papers in the folder. Then I will turn in my homework and bring the folder back. Finally, I will then return to my seat.
