Talrynn
Capital:
Tarlemaine

Terminology: Talrynnar, Talyrnnian, Talrynni

Tarlemaine used to be the capital city of the great Tarmanine Empire, however, with the death of Emperor Dughal the Akirans invaded, and with that invasion the empire fell. The Talrynnar were able to fend off the invasion, however all the Haldron kingdom province of the Tarmanine Empire took the opportunity to declare independence. The kingdom itself is styled very similar to that of the Roman Empire, with the capital city being constructed of white marble mined from the nearby ocean-side cliffs of Tarlemaine. The kingdom of Talrynn hosts the strongest human navy in the known world, and is considered a close ally of Rivan (The Elven Kingdom). Many seek to regain the lost glory of the Tarmanine Empire, and while Talrynn is no longer the hub of the great Tarmanine Empire, Talrynn is still the most disciplined and militaristic governments of the Human Lands.
Kreis (Kray-iss)
Capital:
Shriekport

Terminology: Kreisan, Kreisi

Kreis is also largely undeveloped as a kingdom. The mountainous peninsula that houses this kingdom makes Kreis a home to many sordid organizations, to include pirates, brigands, and rebels. Kreis purportedly breeds riding drakes among the best of all the human kingdoms, and has the second strongest navy in the known world. Although their name has sparked some ridicule, none dare to ask a Kreisan, “Are you Cra-i-zy?” without expecting a fight.

Akir
Capital:
Aquida

Terminology: Akiran, Akirian, Akiri

This kingdom is not developed much, though it is a constant thorn in the side of Talrynn. It is known for producing some of the most powerful wizards in Shillendrah’s history, to include the family of Thordbain himself, and Aristobulous the Great and his lineage. Akiran horses are famed as the strongest and fastest of any in Shillendrah. Akir was once a member province of the Tarmanine Empire; with the death of the emperor, it declared independence and attempted to overthrow Talrynn to create a new Akiran Empire. The invasion was thwarted, however, when the Elven Kingdom of Rivan intervened in the invasion with their wizard battalions.
Haldron
Capital:
Brookville

Terminology: Haldroni, Haldronar, Haldronian

Haldroni historically are a curious and adventuresome people, and their membership in the Tarmanine Empire was the most benevolent of relationships. It is only with the decline of the Tarmanine Empire that Haldron regained a desire for independence. Brookville in Haldron has one of the best human wizard’s schools in the Human Lands of Shillendrah. The style of architecture in Haldron is closer to that of medieval Europe, and the villages are afforded their own local governments with minimal government interference.

Rivan – The Elven Kingdom
Capital:
Arileska

Terminology: Arileskan

Rivan is the remnant of the old Elven Empire, the last vestibule of Elven glory and power. It was ruled by Thordbain with strict authority and decisive enforcement. Rivan was one of the few Kingdoms to survive after the Fall of Thordbain, and the ancient white spires and elegant Elven castles that dot the landscape are a testament to their resolve to persevere. The Elves of Rivan comprise what are called High Elves, which are adept wizards, and the mystical Fae Elves – masterful sorcerers. The Rivan Navy is rivaled in strength by the Talrynn Navy, and the Rivan Army is one of the strongest magical armies in the known world. The elves of Rivan refer to themselves as True Elves, having remembered their origins as magical beings first and foremost, and encourage other Kingdoms to ignore the rabble who founded their own kingdom, known as the Sylstan Protectorate.

Sylstan Protectorate
Capital:
Heleska

Terminology: Sylvesti, Heleskans

The Sylstan Protectorate was formed during the first Horde War, when the Dwarves displaced a large population of Elves in an effort to divide the front with the Orc Hordes of Hagug Bloodbane. The Elves wandered in the Sylvesti Forest seeking refuge, and found it in the care of a council of twelve unicorns. The Unicorn Council granted the Elves a birthright in the Forests of Sylvesti as long as they would covenant to protect the forest from decline and imbalance. Those that took that covenant became the Protectors of Sylvesti, and their kingdom became known as the Sylstan Protectorate. The Protectorate is lead by a trio of elves, called the Council of Protectors, and they strive to keep their society in balance with the forest. Their structures are all built around and in the trees, using magic to grow structures rather than hack or saw them from the wood. The Sylvesti Elves are comprised of Wood Elves – expert marksmen with the bow and skilled swordsmen, and the magical Fae Elves. The Sylvesti see themselves as True Elves, having returned to their roots as tree-dwellers as the first Elves were before they corrupted themselves with their lust for power. The Sylstan Protectorate does welcome nor does it oppose visitors and immigrants, so long as they respect the Forest to which they owe so much. The Sylstan Protectorate is also home to the well known Arachnae riders, called the Arachnid Dragoons.

Durhga (Dur-Gah)
Capital:
Durhg Homme

Terminology: Durhga, Durhgan, Ulani

The Dwarven Kingdom of Durhg Homme is the only surface-dwelling kingdom of the dwarves. Many of their cities are actually reconstructed remnants of once-Elven cities. Long ago, the dwarves lived in another land, but they were besieged by the orcs of the Orc Lands. Hagug Bloodbane and his hordes marched against the dwarves with all manner of orc and goblin kin. The Dwarves (then of the Kingdom of Ulan) sought the aid of their neighbors, the Elves, and found no help. In desperation, the Dwarves were forces to move into the Elf lands, which eventually led to a three-way war between the Elves, Dwarves and Orcs. In the end, the Elves and Dwarves conceded to one another, and fought (although not together) to halt the Orc invasion. Once the invasion was halted, Ulan as a Kingdom no longer existed, and Durhg Homme was adopted as the new capital of Durhga (literally translated it simply means ‘Dwarf’). The Dwarves have always had cool relations with the Elves since that time, and Durhga seeks actively to patrol its lands in the event of any new Elf aggression.
Al-Mamlakah Al-Azaliyah
The Eternal Kingdom (a.k.a. Azaliyah)
Capital:
Dam Shaq (Dehm-Shahk)

Terminology: Azaliyan, Azalari

The Azaliyan government, called in their own language The Eternal Kingdom, is a government styled with a very particular caste system, where those with power have absolute control over those below them. Those in the upper castes may take whatever they’d like from those lower than them. While the system seems very unbalanced or unfair to an outsider, the Azaliyans code of conduct prevents excessive abuse in most cases. The lower castes are content to serve, while the elite upper castes live off the fat of the labors of their slaves. The deserts of The Eternal Kingdom, also called Azaliyah by outsiders, are a deadly place indeed, with roaming bands of gypsies, beasts of the desert, and even drakes and dragons feeding on the wandering souls lost therein.

Saija
Capital:
Saijing

Terminology: Saijan

This is a largely undeveloped Kingdom - A kingdom of the orient, Saija embodies all the honor, power, and glory of ancient Japan. Their code of honor and Samarai warriors hold the Musangan hordes at bay.

Musanga
Capital:
Shangurah

Terminology: Musangan

Largely undeveloped – The Musangan are a proud people who are modeled after the Mongols of ancient times. They value strength and power over all other traits, and teach warfare to their young from a young age. Their code of honor is not very different from that of the Saijan, however they allow for a more liberal outlook on tactics and methods.

Wystra
Capital:
Winterhome

Terminology: Wystraeun

Wystra is a nation as ancient as any other society on Shillendrah. Though largely populated by humans, other sentient races populate this kingdom in the icy north. Commonly seen throughout Wystraeun society are Arctic Elves, Mountain Dwarves, Gnomes, and even civilized Orcs. Arctic Felari also live within the borders of Wystra, however they are by far rarer than the other non-human races in the kingdom. Wystra is situated on massive geothermal hot-springs that pour directly into the Wystraeun Gulf, and due to its warmer temperature, is never completely frozen over. The southern half of the gulf, though bone-chilling, never freezes up. Icebergs can be a constant threat to the country’s thriving internal sea trade, not to mention piracy.
Wystraeun history is fraught with conflict and death, and there have been many civil wars fought between the dwarves, elves and humans who live in the frozen north. At one point, demi-humans were induced to slavery to survive, however, in yet another bloody civil conflict; they won their freedom and established their own cities, all eventually combining under one flag in a massive conflict that lasted fifty years.
The Lands of the Dragon
Capital:
Nabilorr

Terminology: Felari

The Felari’s homeland, The Lands of the Dragon still pays homage to the Tyrant, Thordbain. They fear if he should ever return to the living. The Lands of the Dragon is the remnant of a Felari Empire that, according to the Felari, spanned the entire globe (this is largely unsubstantiated, though Felari ruins have been found as far abroad as the southern continent of Jeziwa). The Felari have a practice of enforced breeding, where only those with tiger-stripes are allowed to be citizens (This law was enacted by Thordbain several thousand years ago, and has become a tradition). The Felari born with plain, calico, or jaguar spotted fur are allotted positions among the Nafelari, “the Non-Felari” – slaves to their own kind.

The Trade Republic
Capital:
Vellyn

Terminology: Republic, Vellynian, Vellynar

The Trade Republic was founded by humans who fled the Tarmanine Empire as it expanded to control all other Human kingdoms. The Trade Republic is the youngest of all the Kingdoms, though it’s robust growth has seen it rise to power faster than any other Kingdom of Shillendrah. A government largely based on capitalism, The Trade Republic has emissaries in every major government known to Shillendrah, and probably even amongst some who no one knows about. There are rumors that even the Vythgarn Citadel does trade with Vellyn, exchanging gnomish artifacts for fine drinks and goods.

Halfhome
Capital:
The City of Giants

Terminology: Half-foot, Halfling

Halfhome’s capital, the City of Giants, was named by Thordbain as a joke – and it stuck. Even throughout all the wars of history, the Halfling city (which looks more like a collection of hills and wooden huts) has never been able to outlive the name. To Halflings, they could care less what outsiders call them. They are Halflings, and they are proud of who they are. Many consider the name, City of Giants, to be a tribute to Halflings ability to take on opponents larger than them, and win. To them, it is homage to their inner strength and size of spirit.
