Tuesday September 10th 2002 W.A. Members plan BBQ This is a letter to let everyone know that Branko and myself will be having a BBQ at our QTH to welcome all members of Tweed Radio Group W.A. to the Group. Should you have anyone visiting WA in the near future or around the date of the BBQ, please feel free to contact us and join us for a day of social gathering. If we know of anyone visiting WA during the year, we will try and arrange to get the Group together so they can meet other members. We plan to have our first BBQ on 29th September, the last Sunday of the month for lunch. Salads, tea and coffe will be supplied. BYO meat and cool drinks please. During the 1st BBQ we will see how things go and hopefully all those who attend will decide to hold more BBQ's and functions in the near future. We ask our members, if they wish, could they bring along a small prize (no greater in value than $5.00) that can be used in a raffle on the day. Monies raised could go to a social account for future group outings. We will let you know if this works. Please pass on our best wishes to all & especially to the wife of TR007(RIP) Ted's wife. Our thoughts & prayers are still with her. 73's and best wishes, Tweed Radio 084 Branko (WA Vice Pres) & Cathy New Member Update 43TR164 Peter Kilburn S.A. New Member Update 43TR055 Tony Orange NSW Monday November 18th 2002 W.A. BBQ Report Early reports indicate that around 24 members and others turned up in good weather conditions to 43TR084 Branko and Kathy's QTH for their get together yesterday. Great to hear from many of them on the station during the chat / talkback session. No doubt we will hear how the event went shortly! Membership Fees Due to a number of enquiries from new members recently, the membership fee payment structure is to be reviewed. As the present system works on a fixed date (1st January) annual renewal basis, it is proposed that members joining during the yea should not be expected to pay the full amount until the following January. Pro-Rata Membership - (AUSTRALIA ONLY ) We the Management Committee have decided to adopt a "Pro-Rata" system for all new Tweed Radio Members who join us at different times of the year. The "Pro Rata" system will now be put in place for this and all future years. The system will be back dated to the 1/01/2002 and allow us to be able to credit new members for that portion of time lost, while still paying a full year's Membership. As Tweed Radio's financial year is from January through to December, this allows us to send out next years' renewals with the October/ November newsletter, saving both time and money! All new memberships will be "Pro Rata" at the time that application is received, for that period of the year. Membership Application forms will clearly show the periods of the year and the percentage of the membership fee payable for those periods. JOINING FEE TO STAY THE SAME, $5.00. Membership Fees/Single/Shared and additional family only are affected by "Pro Rata". Periods, Jan,Feb,March = 100% Apr,May,June =75% Jul,Aug,Sep = 50% Oct,Nov,Dec = 25% |

TR024 Rob and TR005 John while having a local chat on 27.225 l.s.b, received a breaker QSK from a fellow radio operator who was in trouble on the access track. which runs beside the Trans-continental railway in WA. A quick acknowledgement and QRZ was sent by TR024 and a weak signal was received from Whiskey Alpha 4345 Mark who was l00kms east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and was returning from a weekend mustering 380klms east of present location when disaster struck. While towing a caravan the front drivers side wheel studs sheared off which caused him to crash his Toyota 4x4 off the road. After establishing what type of situation we were dealing with, two mobile phone numbers were obtained and calls were made to Mark’s family and a relay of information was set up from the accident location. This action we are sure brought great relief to Mark and his family to know that help was on the way, it sure was a great buzz for TR024 Bob and myself to know we were able to help by providing a communications link and at the same time stretch out the hand of friendship through radio. In closing I would like to say that. W.A. 4345 Mark made phone contact to both Tweed Radio operators to say thanks for the help given and make known they arrived home safe and sound later that evening. 73s from TR005 John& TR024 Bob “Extending the hand of friendship’ 2003 DX Contest Our DX contest will be held over the weekend 12-14th September. Saturday March 8th 2003 Social Day BBQ The Social day BBQ was held today with members from QLD, NSW, and Victoria. Although not a big turnout, a good time was had by all who attended.
