How I Enjoy My Tea

My favorite type of tea is black tea...with lots of sugar and cream. I learned to drink tea this way from my parents. I was quite shocked when I met people who only brought lemon and honey to the table for tea. I have learned to ask for cream and sugar and even carry a tiny tin containing my favorite tea, sugar packs, and horrors! powdered creamer...used only for the most dire of times.

I am tending towards English Breakfast and Earl Grey at this point.

And truth be known...I don't care for herbal teas much at all. I went that route for awhile and tried a variety of flavors over many years but always come back to black tea with cream and sugar. Two changes that I have made though are changing from refined white sugar :( to turbinado and switching from dairy creamer to soy creamer. I guess there is some taste difference but I don't notice it and no one has ever commented on it to me. Perhaps at the beginning I did but I don't recall. I also have found some wonderful organic teas and now almost exclusively purchase those. I try to get decaf tea whenever I can as it's not the "kick" I enjoy. It's the taste, the warmth and the effect tea has in making me slow down and savor the time at hand. For me tea is a "comfort food".

There is nothing quite as soothing to me as plain old tea and toast. I knew my sister enjoyed hers also but was surprised to learn both my brothers do too! Some things never change. :) Our daughters drink their tea the same way as I do but we have all grown to love Japanese green tea with brown rice (genmaicha) like my husband grew up with. I have found an organic version that is quite good and convenient since it comes in teabags. Now I know most tea afficianados (or tea snobs!) would rather die than use a teabag but we are just down to earth kind of folks so they don't bother us a bit.

We do use loose tea often but for most everyday type of tea we don't. I guess if Martha Stewart were to drop by I'd at least think about using the loose tea...nah!
