Ran a wire from battery –ve terminal to white wire of Boyer. I ran the bike like that for a week, and it ran okay with no major ignition upsets. But it still doesn’t run perfectly. It still gives a cough, a miss, and a hesitation every now and then. Then, on my way home from work after dark, the lights simply cut out altogether and the ignition went haywire again. I had to rev the motor to keep it alive, and rode home completely without lights (insanity, in this particular town). At home, cursory inspection shows a mass of melted wires inside the headlamp shell, and under the seat. Brown-green wire completely burnt through at its battery/switch junction, thus causing the lights failure. But ignition sorta kept on working, because I’d run a wire from –ve terminal … etc etc. Surveying the devastation, this was the moment when I finally paused to wonder – why the hell isn’t there a fuse-box anywhere on this sucker? And now, kids! It’s time for “Bananas in Pyjamas” Episode No. 3265 … B1 (to B2) - “Are you thinking what I’m thinking, B2?” B2 (to B1) - “I think I am, B1” B1 and B2 (together) - “It’s New Wiring Harness time!!!!” Union Jack and British Spares were both out of stock, so I turned instead to the Mother Country for succour and relief. I waved my credit card at Shropshire Motorcycles (www.triumphbonneville.com) to the tune of seventy of your finest English pounds Sterling, and a new harness arrived in 10 days time. Not bad! |
