March 2005

Took the bike out for a ride to our shrimp farm on Sunday to feed the shrimp.  I noticed on my return that the battery breather hose had sprayed acid onto the silencer.  I polished out the green tarnish-spots with Autosol.

Next Sunday it did it again, so of course I extended the breather hose so it would go past the silencer and not spoil its chrome.  Then I polished out the green spots.

Boy, am I thick or what?

Another Sunday.  This time, on returning from the farm, the engine died suddenly and needed a few kicks to re-start.  It would run for ½ a mile, then die again.  It would re-start, only to die as soon as the clutch was let out and put it under load again.  If I could get the thing in motion it would carry on for another ½ mile, not feeling happy, then die again.

I decided; rather than baby this motor to keep it alive, how about we just rev the crap out of it?
So I did.

And it kept going.

By staying in low gear and using plenty of revs, and thanks to light traffic through the city (it being Sunday), I was able to make it home.

I then parked the bike up and left it in disgrace, riding instead my Ariel 350 for the next six weeks.
