Materials:
Nine staves (wooden poles)
Binder twine for basket
of thrower assembly and lashings
Catapult diagram and instruction
sheet (provided by each patrol)
Boy Scout handbook
Lots of water balloons
Preparation:
1. | Plan about 2.5 hours to complete and test your catapult. |
2. | The patrol leaders will be responsible for their patrol and the construction of the catapults. |

Lashings that you may need to know for this activity are found in chapter 5 of the Boy Scout handbook. Lashings you may need to use include the square, shear, diagonal, round, and tripod lashings. |
General rules:
|
The water supply area and materials area are neutral ground. |
|
During the building and development phase of the catapult, each patrol will be allowed a maximum of 5 test shots. |
|
The catapults can be moved to fire on other patrols but it must remain behind the established battle lines. |
|
Patrol members may not charge forward. They must stay to the immediate side and rear of their own catapult. |
|
Rounds CANNOT be thrown by hand. |
|
Adult leaders will act as referees. |
|
Rounds can be fired singly or as group shots. |
|
If your catapult breakdowns during the shootout, all repairs must be made under fire. There will be no ceasefires!!! |
|
The general will start and end the shutout. |
