| PLANNING AND PROGRAMME The previous pages outline a vision for the future. The village of Termonfeckin, under its existing criteria however cannot support or sustain further development. It has neither the infrastructure nor the amenities to do so. o The road network is poor, with regard to its capacity, its quality of construction and its safety. o Street lighting and safe pedestrian access is limited beyond the existing village centre. o The mains water supply has limited capacity and offers poor pressure to many of the properties it already serves. o The public sewage scheme has yet to commence. o The lower regions of the village and properties along the river are susceptible to flooding. Imagination and innovation are required to deal with surface water run off from new developments to minimise affects of flooding from the river and to protect against high tides. Photographic records of recent flooding to the village and its periphery are included in Appendix A of the published copy of this document. o The pre-school, and National school are rapidly becoming oversubscribed. o The village is poorly served with regard to frequency of public transport. It is therefore recommended that until the required infrastructure is in place, development is restricted to individual dwellings, along the guidelines outlined above, and to individuals that require accommodation in the area to service their family/work commitments. Speculative developments and provision of accommodation to commuters are inappropriate until such developments can be supported and sustained. |
