What's new in the World of Nick? |
The rules were simple...
1) You are voting on the best DQ girl. Interpret 'best' as you will.
2) You may vote assuming you have satisfactory knowledge of the 'contestants' to vote. In other words, no recruiting people to vote for you. And you must be employed with me to vote. You may be either male or female. You may vote for yourself.
3) Only email with a legitimate name sent to TrueLancer@hotmail.com will be considered. All vote are kept confidential, but NO 'anonymous' entries.
4) You are allowed to make three votes. One favorite and two runner ups. More than three votes will disqualify your entry; less than three votes will disqualify your entry. All must be different people.
5) Make your votes. If possible, add in some comments as to why exactly you voted as you did. This serves the purpose of allowing to gauge whether it's a real vote or not (stop cheating!) and I'll give bonuses for comments. And I'm sick of getting lifeless dead emails with three names and nothing else.
6) NO CHEATING! I'm not kidding!
I thought it was simple. I mean, all you had to do was write something down and give it to me. Unfortunately, "Never underestimate the stupidity of others." About 40% of the people who votes made mistakes. It was similar to Florida elections, actually. Here are the things that annoyed me.
* People who gave comments were good. I like to hear what you think. People who gave excuses made me angry. I hate you.
* "What am I voting for?" Read rule #1.
* "Who can I vote for?" Read rule #2.
* "How many votes can I make?" Read rule #3.
* People who send me the same three people.
Read rule #4.
One particularly long time friend of mine (who
apparently is illiterate) sent me a couple good comments about who he was
voting for. I love comments. In fact, everyone who got
a favorable comment (who didn't make it about themself, mind you) garnered
an extra point. Unfortunately, dummy had only beautiful things to
say... but he only voted for two people.
* People who changed their minds after voting. There
was no rule to this, but it was annoying.
After a while, I started to notice a pattern.
If I saw two emails in a row from the same person, the first inevitably
contained a 'bad' vote followed by an email that said "Sorry, made a mistake.
My NEW vote is..." Whether they realized they made a mistake or they changed
their mind, I began to dread seeing two emails coming from the same
address at, one after another. I knew it was an idiot.
* "Can I just tell you my vote?"
After a while, I realized that some people
did want to vote but didn't have the capabilities to email me, so I allowed
people to write votes down and give it to me. All I asked was that
they write their votes down. On anything. Paper, napkin, my
hand... anything. Yet I still had people saying "Can't I just tell
you?" Grr.
* "I'd like to vote? Can I?"
I used to say yes. Well, I've waited
long enough. It is time to post the results.
