You probably won't remember this X-Wing pilot from Return of the Jedi -- he was only onscreen long enough for us to witness his fiery demise -- but I thought he was worth making a figure of anyway, especially considering what a simple a task it amounted to. It's really just a Lando Calrissian head stuck onto a Biggs Darklighter body, with a little cutting and reshaping of the neck piece to allow for a better fit with the body. The hardest part of this figure was the helmet, a repainted Wedge Antilles helmet (from the Rebel Pilots Cinema Scene 3-pack). I couldn't clearly make out the pattern on his helmet from a single shot of the film (much less figure out how to reproduce it on the figure), so instead, I concentrated on the chin guard. It was made from one of those transparent elastic bands that Star Wars figures are often packaged with these days. The elastic was glued onto the inside of the helmet and then painted black. |

I glued a curved plastic piece on the front, cut roughly to the shape of the figure's chin, painting it white with a black stripe along the middle. Since the strap is elastic, the helmet can still be removed; it just has to be done carefully. The paint is chipped on the chin guard because I wasn't careful enough. (Anyone know what would make a good sealant for this kind of application?)

Yeah, so it's just another Lando head, but it looks as much like the character I'm trying to reproduce as it looks like Billy Dee Williams! | ||||||||||||
