Built by Tom and Tony and flown by Tony; this GSP.com P-51D features a fiberglass fuse, foam-core wings and tail, and robart retracts. We chose to recover the wings and tail with Top Flite Monokote because the original covering was wrinkled. Panel lines are drawn on using Kyosho .4mm pinstripe. The color scheme was that of Capt. William A Shomo nicknamed "The Flying Undertaker". He and this plane were stationed in the Phillipines during 1945.
This model served us well for 3 seasons, but had taken it's fair share of abuse as well. We decided that it would be easier to build a new better Mustang than try to rebuild this one. The airframe was stripped of all the electronics and engine and sold to a gentleman in the Chicago area. We wish him the best of luck, he's got a great flying bird. |
