Episode Review

Shido

Shido had a life before he was transformed into the vampire he is, however all of his memories are with his sire and former lover, Cain.  However he has adjusted to his lack of memories and began a new life.  A life where he hunts down the terrible and deadly "breed".  Though he had planned on doing this alond he developed close relationships with several beings.  He took in a young girl named Riho who had lost both her parents to the breed and his relationship with her escalates as the series goes on.  Then there is Yayoi who is his blood sponser.  She is imune to a vampires bite and his only meens of nurishment, for he refuses to drink any other humans blood.  Then there is his little urban faery, Guni, who often hides in his hair whenver they are in public.

Riho

Riho is the young office assistant whose parents were killed by the breed.  She has a huge crush on Shido and often gets jealous whenver he spends time with Yayoi.  Her and Guni are often fighting with each other like sisters would, due to the fact that she has a crush on Shido.  She discovers Shido's vampiric nature in a rather unfortunate way.  She was posessed by a breed and when she came to Shido was "snacking" and Yayoi. (See the episode reviews for more details) But she continues to work for him even after that.  Once more her crush on Shido puts her in danger as she is kidnapped by Cain and nearly killed.  However, Shido saves her by making her a vampire like him.  As the series progresses her and Shido become closer and in the last episode they are even seen sleeping in the same coffin.

Guni

Guni is an urban faery (not exactly what you imagined, eh?) and a MAJOR brat.  She often makes snappy and rude remarks to Yayoi and Riho and Yayoi usually has a very witty comeback, however Riho has not yet learned how to defend herself against Guni.  All of this is to get the attention of Shido.  Its sort of like a huge catfight.  Or rather a faery-vampire-human fight.  Guni found Shido one night by the docks and has just been hanging around with him from that night forward.  She just WON'T LEAVE!!!  But we all love Guni...

Yayoi

Yayoi works for the NOS (an agency that also works to hunt down the breed) and works as somewhat a double agent for Shido (though in later episodes the NOS doesn't hate Shido as much).  She is also a blood sponsor for Shido and, later on, Riho, because she is immune to a vampires bite.  When she was five years old her and her sister snuck down to look at their birthday cake.  An accident occured that lit their house on fire killing their parents and destroying Yayoi's face.  Her sister voluntarily took in a breed with the promise that her sister would live.  For years Yayoi lived with her sister, who came out of the fire without a scratch.  Shido eventually gets involved with her sister and the breed that resides inside of her.  Yayoi's sister kills herself in the end and leaves Yayoi her face (the gift that keeps on giving ^^() )  along with the repeated words "I love you".  From that day forward she becomes one of Shido's close companions.

Cain

Cain, the vampire that took Shido's human life, his innocence, and his precious memories.  (And the vampire who has a startling resemblence to Lestat de Lioncourt from Anne Rice's novels... hmm.. )  He has come back to taunt poor Shido with his memories from life.  This is another charactor that just WON'T GO AWAY!!  Even after Shido decapitated him he CAME BACK! -_-;    He and Shido not only became fellow vampire, but lovers as well.  Shido becomes so discusted with what he has become that he runs from Cain.  As revenge Cain takes all of his memories, slowly feeding them back to him hundreds of years later.
