Irvin Hall

Associate Athletics Director - External Affairs

     

Irvin Hall joins the Texas Southern University Athletics Department as the new Associate Athletics Director - External Affairs after spending the last three years as Manager, Athletics Business and Public Relations in the Houston Independent School District Athletics Department. In his new role, Hall will be responsible for marketing, promotions and expanding the TSU Athletic department's donor base. In addition, he will oversee Sports Information and facilitate the production of communication tools such as media guides, brochures and all external presentations.

     

Hall, who brings over 20 years of senior management experience to Texas Southern, started his career at General Motors Corporation. After leaving General Motors, he served as the Community Services Executive at Orchards Children's Services (Michigan), as Deputy Assistant Director for the City of Houston Parks and Recreation's Sports Operations Division, and was a motivational speaker for the Detroit Pistons/Panasonic Speakers Bureau. While at HISD, Hall was responsible for the oversight and fiscal management of an eight million dollar budget for athletics programming at 59 secondary schools and three district sports complexes. Hall's other duties included handling all public relations activities, developing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and acting as the department webmaster.

    

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Hall graduated from St. Martin DePorres High School as the class valedictorian while participating as a three-sport athlete on the varsity football, basketball and track teams. He received an athletic scholarship to play football from Eastern Michigan University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology in 1986.

     

Throughout his career, Hall has worked closely with leaders in government, business, private sectors, and professional sports organizations. Hall is credited with working with Major League Baseball to develop RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner City) programs in Detroit, Pontiac and Highland Park, Michigan and Houston, Texas. Hall has served on many non-profit boards of directors, including a leadership advisory committee for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and is an active member of the Houston Downtown Lions Club.

     

He and his wife, Dorothy, have 4 sons, 5 daughters, and 1 grandchild.
