Sweet Dream Pie is a wonderful story about a man who can't sleep so he convinces his wife to make him sweet dream pie despite her warnings.  The pie casts a sweet spell over the entire neighborhood, but people don't listen to the warnings about eating too much.  The illustrations and storyline are very entertaining.
Kids like: How the pie affects the people, like when they fall out of bed.
I like: That the book shows there are consequences when people don't follow rules, and that things which appear sweet and wonderful aren't always in the end.

Disney's Storybook Collection is a hardcover edition with each masterpiece movie story included plus other Disney favorites. From Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Hercules, it includes illustrations and text that tells the story.
Kids like: That most Disney favorites are compiled into one book.
I like: That the kids take time from watching the videos to reading the book!

No, David! is an autobiography created by David Shannon when he was a child and his mother always told him no.  The illustrations and text are updated, but the story is still great.  Perfect for the rambunctious three-year-old!
Kids like: The funny pictures, especially when he shows the food in his mouth.
I like: It shows kids that even when we tell them no all the time, we still love them.

Caldecott Medal winner Maurice Sendak's book Where the Wild Things Are is a classic tale that all children love.  It chronicles the naughty Max who decides to leave home and go to where the wild things are, where he becomes their leader.  The illustrations are unsurpassed!
Kids like: The great pictures, especially of the monsters.
I like: The pictures and story are wonderful, concise, and enjoyable.  The message it sends to children is also commendable.

The tale of the gingerbread man is retold in classic fashion by Jim Aylesworth.  The words are simple for beginning readers, and the illustrations are beautiful.  Includes a recipe for gingerbread on the back cover!
Kids like: The idea of a gingerbread man coming to life.
I like: The repetition which helps kids learn to read, and the sassy gingerbread man is fun.
