If you read the page about my 5MGTE engine, you kind of know whats going on with the engine. Fortunately for me a lot of the stuff I had on the 5MGTE fit onto the 7MGTE, like the turbo manifold, the downpipe/exhaust, intercooler pipes, etc., etc.. But get this...this 7MGTE isn't getting the forged pistons, prepped rods, ported head (maybe later) and balance job. I'm using what is basically a stock 7MGTE with ARP head studs and a HKS metal head gasket.
The 7MGTE comes with dished oil-cooled pistons, and a 24 valve head. Toyota does a great job of overengineering things and it shows on this engine. The 7MGTE is designed with the notion that it is going to be turbo'd. Parts are strengthened using Lexus metallurgy techniques.
I didn't take the bottom end apart, just cleaned and painted it. The head was cleaned, pressure checked and the valves were lapped. The pictures you see on the right are before and after shots of the engine. I'm trying out a different theory on this car. Instead of going through each engine, instead, I'll abuse the engine and when it blows I'll just swap in another used engine from Japan. We'll see how this approach works out. I call it the "disposable engine" method. |
