Janet was born in Seoul, South Korea. She grew up in the rapidly developing area of South Queens, NY, and spent her childhood afternoons at her father's gift shop surrounded by glass and crystalware. She attended Bryn Mawr College with the intention of pursuing a doctorate in English literature. However, Janet backpacked throughout Europe in 1995 and found herself attracted to the glass communities in Scotland and Italy. After graduation, travels to the West Coast brought her to Seattle, where she resided for a few years. The rich glass blowing community there helped her quickly acquire the skills of the trade. Janet produces traditional hand blown glass objects, but also utilizes her background in literature to create unique glass art pieces with inscribed poetry.

Janet studied glass blowing at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, WA and Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA. She currently works as a studio artist and teaches at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, NY. She also spends a part of her time running a preschool with her sister in Northern Queens, where she resides.
