Brief Information Original Format: 16mm / Color Projection: 16mm Print, Beta SP, DVC, Mini-DV Length: 13min 30sec Genre: Short / Drama / Comedy / Children Selection: Voladero International Film and Video Festival, Mexico Kyiv International Film Festival, Kyiv, Ukraine San Diego Asian American Film Festival, San Diego, CA New Filmmakers Showcase, Syracuse, NY Synopsis Turtle Soup offers a wordless, carefully paced comedy of manners involving a wanna-be chef at a Chinese restaurant who plans the title's dish but first he's got to wrest the pet reptile from a neighbor kid for the main ingredient. Statement The theme of my projects over the last few years concerns pre-adolescent identity reflecting my childhood. I wish to explore forgotten memory of childhood mythology dealing with 'frightening', 'shyness', and 'purity'. Through the short film project TURTLE SOUP, I became increasingly aware of the importance of cinematography in revealing the relationship between characters and spaces in a non-conventional way. |
