Red indicates dead keys for accents, i.e. they are dead (nothing happens) until you type a vowel after them. To use them, press the red key first and then the vowel you want to add the accent mark to.
Note: The lower case ö, and ñ will not work in Word Perfect using the alt. key, these characters can be made by typing: shift+" then o, and shift+~ then n respectively, or by using a Spanish or German keyboard.
The following characters can be made by typing: ' (the apostrophe key) then the letter:

To type an apostrophe before a vowel, e.g. y'all, you have to type a space after the apostrophe or it will become an acute acent mark, e.g. yáll, instead of y'all.
