Two Rocking Chairs
A summer night, two rocking chairs,
Are very close now side by side.
A tender voice I've known so long,
Saying all the words I already know,
But always find worth repeating.
A strong warm shoulder, two loving arms,
Still have that sweet old magic.
Of other days when we were young,
And found a true love together.
A straight old tree out there in the yard,
A carved heart with both our names.
That through all of the years that passed,
Grew even more tightly entangled.
And neither angry winds or storms,
Could break the strong roots that hold it.
On us time may have left her mark.
It took our youth but not our love.
A summer night, two rocking chairs,
Are now forever close together.
